| Just in case anyone was curious, I thought i'd post how Emily came into our world. Eric was originally awarded two weeks of vacation, but at the very last minute (the middle of his first week), his second week was revoked due to lack of pilots. That would mean that Eric would have to be back to work on May 30th. So I had my 40week appt. and I said "if I don't have this baby before monday, he'll be gone again". The doc said well, let's do a NST (because the baby hadn't moved that whole morning) and see how that comes out. Well, she flunked it (barely) and the doc said "Let's induce.... TODAY!!" I was a little surprised, but I think she knew if we scheduled it, i'd worry about it for days. So off to the hospital we went.... We got to the hospital and 10:00am and by 10:30am I was on Pitocin. About 2:45 the next morning I began dilating (finally). Then the contractions started. I had an epidural put in. I told the doctor and all the nurses, and of course Eric, that I loved them About 5:00pm I was fully dilated and began pushing. I pushed for over two hours. She was a 0 station. By that time I had been on the Pitocin for approx. for 33hrs. The doc said I was pushing really well, but she couldn't tell which way the baby was facing because of the hair. She had another doc check me and she concurred that they couldn't tell. At this point I begged for a c-section. They were going to increase my epidural and the nurse said "I need to take the catheter out" I said "can you wait til they up my epidural?" She said no. They took me to the O.R. and that's when they realized that the epidural wasn't working very well on one side and I could feel some pain. My blood pressure shot up to 175 and all the doc's were worried. I was shaking uncontrollably. They finally finished the surgery and took me to recovery where my blood pressure and heart rate still soared. I had a ton of doc's and nurses around me poking me (I had three i.v. lines put in) and people pushing on my stomach (I was anemic and had lost an excessive amount of blood during surgery). I was crying and begging for pain relief and never really got any. Anyway... that's our story. It was the hardest, scariest, worst experience of my life... and if someone said to me "You have to do that 10 more times if you want to keep her" I would say "How soon can we start!!" I love her more than life itself. Thanks for reading... Tanya and Emily |
