Default Could it be - Kids in retirement?

57 yr old has twins

I'm really digging this story.. cuz it's kindof what i want to do! get my todo list done now, have kids when i'm ready.. I know it'd be quite risky and it'd probably be more difficult as you get older.. plus, i'd probably have to freeze some eggs (I dunno if it's already to late for that) but I'm thinking it might work as long as I keep myself physically healthy and alert...but i wonder how the years will go for her, so i'm looking forward to watching and seeing if there are any future stories about this and how older women do in motherhood!

we'll see I guess huh?!

The only issue I could think of with having kids THAT late is having the energy to keep up with them. I'm exhausted with Alex & the little baby and I'm not even 30 yet! Also being over 70 years old and having teenagers around the house.

At least the woman in the story is under good doctor's care though. That's more than can be said for a lot of pregnant women!

Wow! Well it doesn't bother me, if that's what someone wants to do. My only thought on it, is that Corbin's parents are that age, and they are TIRED! They always have some little medical problem, not a big deal, but stuff like knee surgeries and carpal tunnel surgeries, etc. that would require a FT babysitter if they had babies to take care of while they were in recovery. They are also getting FRUITY! I don't mind them watching Caleb for a few hours, but even at 57, they are both getting dangerous behind the wheel, they are spacey and forgetful, and I just couldn't see them having to take care of new babies, toddlers, or youth! That's my opinion-but just basing it off of what I know of Corbin's parents, since they are the only people I know that are that age.

ok i've got a couple of thoughts on this (like everything else ) Anyway, a friend of mine has a dad who is in his mid to late 80's. She was born when he was like 65 I think. Her mom is significantly younger than her father, (about 25 years i think?). It is pretty rediculus because this man is older than ALL of my grandparents. His daughter is continually worrying about his health and her living a few hours away isn't helping matters any.

I think it is absolutely insane to have children that late in life because of not only the health risks that you pose to the child (women >40 increases the risk of Down's Syndrome and Men over 35 increases the risk of various other mental illnesses -specifically schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder). Not to mention the general tiredness people get as they get older - my grandparents are two very different sets of people. One has the "oh i'm so old and tired" mentality and the other is very much the "age is all in your mind, we're going to travel the world and go out on the town" type. The latter set has a list of things to do before they die and they are out there doing them all after raising 5 kids between them (they married after their kids were mostly grown - this is a second marriage for both of them) and now they can just enjoy their grandkids without having to worry about things like discipline or making sure that the kids eat right etc.

plus if you had kids that late in life, there's almost no way you'd ever get to have grandkids to spoil! talk about missing out! I thought that was the whole point of having kids was so that you could have grandkids to have fun with!
