| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | I didn't have to have a full bladder (thank god). I was never given any special instructions before hand, so I did drink a lot before just in case.....when I got I asked if I had to have a full bladder and they said no....thank god, I was about to burst! I have heard some offices tell people to have a full bladder. It might depend on the type of machine they use or just the technicians preference. They say it is easier to see since the u/s waves travel really well through liquid. Good luck! |

| Jetgirls Plus Member ![]() | Can I add a suggestion? Half an hr or so before you leave the house drink about a cup or so of caffeine and/or a candy bar. By the time you get there your jumping bean might give you some great results on your ultrasound. I'm guessing girl. No, boy. No, girl! ughh, one of each? lol

| Oh, I had one ultrasound where they told me that....it was at at, what appeared to be, out-dated facility. I have had my share of ultrasounds, and it was only that one that told me to have a full bladder. I agree with Brenda, have a soda or candy bar before your ultrasound so that he will be active....did I say, he? Can't wait to find out what you are having...how exciting. |

| argh...my computer froze up...so i'm trying this AGAIN. i hope i catch you before you go! go with a full bladder...believe me, i was sent out because my bladder was not full enough for one of my ultrasounds! they use the full bladder during some ultrasounds to determine locations of "stuff" and possibly measurements. they will let you leave to "relieve" yourself in the middle of the ultrasound and have you come back to finish. not so bad... it is fun to have a little caffeine or sugar before the ultrasound, baby moves around quite a bit more...but i'm not sure if that would make determination of the sex more difficult?? or if baby was in a bad spot to start with...would the moving around make it easier?? just something to consider... also...bring along a videotape (blank)...some (note: SOME) have the option of video recording the ultrasound. we have a video from my first and it (although it's hard to figure out what's what...) is so cool to go and see her moving around in utero. keep us updated! yippee!

here is a side piece of information. When Radiologist read a film (xray, ultrasound, mri, whatever) they look at thousands of films, there eyes become very trained. When they put up a new study they instanly notice that something is different. Then they start looking farther into it to see if it is "normal" different or bad different. Think about pulling into your driveway you do it a thousand times, with out even thinking about it you know what it looks like. it you pulled in and the the welcome mat was moved your eye would automaticly go there because something was different. Anyway back to the point of a full bladder. If a doctor is trained and use to reading ultrasound with a full bladder, then changing to an empty bladder throws them off. It is hard for them to re-train thier eyes. one way isn't really better than another, it just comes down to who is reading the films and how they were trained. I would always ask, or go with a full bladder, becuase you can empty alot easier than fill.
