We just got regular furniture from a furniture store for our son's room. It is for a kid's room, so it is not overly large, but it should last for awhile. Just got a dresser with a mirror, chest of drawers and a nightstand which all came as a package. It's not the best quality, but it looks nice. He has a TV in his room (can't watch TV just for video games and movies) which he has on the nightstand. We did not buy a changing table. I think the angle you have to stand to use them is awkward and my mom told me they were a waste of money. We had a a changing pad thing which we just put on the bed in the spare room to change him. It was pretty convenient. We special ordered the crib from Baby Depot so it would almost perfectly match the furniture. I don't think he even slept in that until he was over 6 months old! I saw this really cute bedding set I liked at Penney's, so I got that. It seemed like I looked and looked but knew exactly what I wanted when I saw it. So, when you see something, you'll probably know it's what you want, if that makes sense??? Good luck.

We use to live by a Pottery Barn Outlet, so I have some of the bedding from there; BUT, I see very unused pottery barn bedding sets on Craig's list all the time. Looks practically new. As far as furniture, we have a very nice sleigh crib that my siblings got for us at Babies R' Us, but we haven't used it for the last 4 or so babies. The one I love is a smaller version that is white metal and folds up. Someone told me to skip the changing table (we couldn't afford a lot then, so this was good advice for us). Our babies tend to like to come around the house whereever we are and sit in their infant carseats at a very young age. We actually bought a new swing and infant carrier with this baby...target.

My advice about the room decor and such...think about how you want to decorate it. Get some catalogs from Pottery Barn and Land of Nod (very good decor ideas). Then, find the bedding and such that matches your idea.

Something that I have never had, but I want badly, is a glider. Someone told me that Dutalier is the most comfortable brand, but since I don't have one, I can't recommend the brand.

Oh, and those baby stores and articles tend to say that you must have this and that....so, not true. You need a carseat. You need a safe place for the baby to sleep. The baby needs you. You don't need all the extras. Some may be nice to have, but definetly not needed. Oh, and don't buy too many newborn diapers because they grow out of them quite fast. Stock up when they have sales, but don't get a lot of the early ones.

This time round the baby has no furniture or bedding, she sleeps in our bed with us although she does have a popup travel cot for those times when we stay away and don't have a lot of room in the bed. How long she'll tolerate going in it though is another matter LOL. DD had a bedside cot, it was important to me to have my baby close by for breastfeeding and to be able to see them and hear them breathing so we got a cot that had a side that could be taken off completely and we attached it to our bed. Neither child has ever had a nursery or changing table etc, we just have a changing mat and do it on the floor.

I went all out Trayton, I got it all at a funtiure store. Then gave it all away, except for the dresser sets. We got a real wood dresser and it has been worth its weight in gold. I think he would go through cheeper versions like nothing. He is a boy and a little hard on the drawers opening and shutting them.

For the new one, we went total hand me down. funny thing is it all matches, it is the blond wood color. we had a dresser that we use as a changing table, we just thre the pad on it. We got the the soft slip cover that went on it....wast of money, after a few poopy diaphers, it now sits in the bottom drawer. You need something that cleans up easy. We got the glider from my brother and I made slip covers so it would match the rest of the room. Had one with Trayton too, loved it.

The crib we have we got from my friend, it is a crib for life, they are a little more money. She never used it for her girls, and I have other people say the same thing, that they only use it as the crib, so we will see, I'm not sure if they are worth the extra money or not.

For my boys I had pottery barn. A bit pricey, but for our first we spent like crazy and so did the grandparents. So, we pretty much had everything, except we did have to buy an additional crib, same style from there. Then with Victoria I got a really good deal for furniture from The land of Nod. Oh, how I love that store! The quality of their furniture is wonderful, something to last a lifetime. And their prices are very good!

I am also in the market for furniture. There is so much out there. I love Pottery Barn, but the prices for the furniture are a bit much to swallow for me. I did buy some bedding from PB Kids online. I looked in the "Sale" section and they have some really cute items for good prices. There is even a bedding set with airplanes! I went with the pink since I am having a girl, but I really liked the plane set!

one of the families that I babysit for decorated the little girl's room with lady bugs - she painted the walls a bright sunny yellow and then painted really cute big lady bugs around on the walls, put the baby's name on the wall, etc. It is super cute! She has a red/white checked chair that she uses to bf the baby in, which was from her older son, so she designed the whole room around the one chair! It's super cute though Don't know where she got any of it though... haha sorry

I went pink too, but daddy needed a little bit of "him" in the room so a b-52 bomber hangs over her bed. she has a wooden airplane lamp the we painted cream with green acents to match (her room is pink and green so the bomber matches too.) I also found these little wooden airplane decor pieces at a craft store and painted them pink and green. she doesn't a "theme" in her room (such as pooh) more of the shabby sheek look. I also painted some old pic frames the same color then with scrapbook paper I spelled out "fly baby" with a letter in each frame.

I know I'm nerd, but I posted some px so you could see what I am talking about.
