Ok.....can anything else happen today to just stress me out? (and its not even 8 am!)

My little sweet monster has been teething (his eye teeth) and he won't eat. He skipped dinner last night and so he woke up at 5:45 am starving...but has he eaten yet today? NOPE! He is just running around cyring and getting into everything. The only thing I can get into his system is milk......I'm expecting him to start MOO'ING at any minute!

I've been stressed to the max trying to get ready for this boat trip that I'm sure won't be relaxing because HELLO.....we're taking a toddler on a boat.....I refuse to come home to a dirty house after vacation so I've been busting my a$$ trying to get the house clean before we leave. DH is not much help because he's doing redeyes right now and SEA layovers back to back and that means he doesn't get home until 2am, but then leaves that evening at 9pm....goes back to JFK and starts all over again. Today he is commuting home so he won't have slept in about 36 hours so he'll be useless today. He'll come home, play with Ben, get him all wound up and then disappear upstairs to go to bed....then its MY fault if Ben is too noisy and DH can't sleep!

We had rats in our house a few months ago (not mice, big black rats...I saw one, thought it was a squirrel!)...(a housewarming present from the lady we bought the house from...apparently she has OCD or something and her house was packed with JUNK! Of course we didn't see any of it because when we looked at the house she was already moved out) We were pretty sure they were gone, but I've been hearing SOMETHING in the walls this morning...pray to God its just a mouse, but I have my suspicions its not.

I'm exhausted (from getting up at 5:45) and I've already lost my temper once today and yelled at Ben....so I've been giving myself a guilt trip about that.....the house is a MESS...and I'm not talking a few dirty dishes or some mail scattered on the dining room table....I mean the house is TRASHED!!!! I'd be mortified if someone were to stop by right now! There is NO WAY I'll be able to get everything finished by the time we leave unless I just don't sleep.......which I guess is always an option! LOL!

I had ALL of the laundry done yesterday (even the sweaters that have been sitting in the closet for a few months waiting to be washed) and when I got up this morning there was a pile of dirty clothes in the middle of the living room floor that my DH had pulled out of his suitcase last night before he left. Now...I asked him THREE times if he had any dirty clothes anywhere other than his closet and ALL THREE times he shook his head no....why do I even bother?

I now understand why my mom was always so cranky the week before vacation!

Ok....I feel a little better having got that out of my system! Thanks for listening to me!

BTW...I love my husband dearly and I've painted him to be a monster here, I just needed to vent!

Well....I feel a little better. I was able to get a stick of string cheese in Ben and he's been playing quietly most of the morning so I was able to get the house straigtened up and all of our stuff to be packed is now sitting on the living room floor waiting for DH to get home and put it in the car.

DH has agreed to keep Ben occupied tomorrow while a scrub the floors and bathrooms. Bless his heart!

I just checked the weather site and we were supposed to have partly cloudy skies all week, but they changed it and now its supposed to rain half the week! I guess we'll just have to go play in the rain! I'm NOT keeping an 18 month old cooped up in a boat all week because of a little rain! He'll drive me nuts!!!!

Anyway....I just wanted to let you all know that I'm feeling better and starting to feel [b:01f8bae1fa][i:01f8bae1fa]slightly [/i:01f8bae1fa][/b:01f8bae1fa] sane again!!

here's a couple of options to use next time or if you have enuff time to implement them now...

write a list of what absolutely NEEDS to get done, if it doesn't need to be done now (laundering sweaters sitting in a closet could wait under the circumstances).. then do it later and just do only the things that need to be done.

I used to do the same thing your doing now which is put everything into a pile and try to get it all done.. and it becomes SO frustrating when you can't get it done and when you feel like your list is never finished.

any chance you can get a maid to come clean the house for you? in instances like this (when your going on vacation) or when you really can't take it (without the help) anymore..it PAYS to have a maid come help you out....yeah I know.. it takes some $$ to have a maid do a one time cleanup.. but for a clean conscience, less pressure and just to get it done it PAYS to hire a maid to get it done for you in under an hour or two! KWIM?! if anything, let the house go, give yourself a break and hire a maid when you come back to get it back to shipshape!

plus, during that time, you can be playing with ben so that he's not *feeling* the teething so much! when their little minds are occupied, they don't feel all the pressure/pain. are you using some anbesol or something? as far as him eating.. he may be hungry but when he's hungry enuff to eat (while teething), he'll let you know and he'll eat - it doesn't help to force it when his mouth is aching so much! see if he'd be interested in some sorbet or something. something cool to the touch might be just the trick.

your putting too much on your list - give yourself a break and do one thing at a time and if you really want to get it all done, hire a maid...your the mom, your sanity is well worth the sacrifice in money! and you can't depend on the men sometimes because they don't see or hear and tend to make you wait until you explode before they start helping you out!

btw.. what's an "eye teeth"? are you talking about the 2 front teeth?

Hey Kristie!

The "eye teeth" are on the sides...picture your teeth...there are two front teeth and two more next to those...go over one further and those are the eye teeth. The pointy-er ones. For some reason, those are usually a little difficult for the little ones to get.

I give Ben Motrin from time to time to help with the pain, but I hate doping him up, so I try to only use that in emergencies. We used Anbesol when he was getting his first teeth, but since these are further back I'm afraid to use it because I don't want to numb his tongue and have him choke on something.

I have taken your advice and I sat down and wrote out everything I would LIKE to get done before we leave (I'm a huge list maker anyway!) then I prioritized it and figured out what HAD to be done. I then broke that list down into today and tomorrow's "to do" lists.

I would LOVE to hire a one time maid, but we really can't afford it right now. BUT...we've been looking into the costs of having a house keeper come once or twice a month to do a BIG SCRUB of the house. I keep hinting to Jason to get me that for Christmas. We'll see!

I did take a break and sit and play with Ben for a little while and shared some yogurt with him. He's taking a nap right now and I should be, too but I have to balance the checkbook. We really should know how much money we have before we leave town, don't ya think?? LOL!

I'm planning on going to the grocery store after Ben wakes up and call me crazy, but I actually ENJOY grocery shopping and I always feel better after a good shop!!!

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions!

I'm glad you relaxed. Getting yourself into a frenzy before vacation is not the best way to start it. Just pick things up as best you can and forget it. Have a great time!

Now I know why Charlie bids around the red eyes. He hates them!

By the way the teeth you describe are the cuspids. The central insisors are the front teeth, next are the lateral insisors, then come the pointy cuspids.

Are cuspids and "eye teeth" the same thing? All of my baby books are calling them "eye teeth"....but now that you mention it, I have heard them called cuspids before.....hhmm

My sister had fangs! So she got to have braces. But she made my mother so miserable that I never got a chance to have braces (thankfully I never had my sister's fangs!).

Can we see a wee bit of bitterness here after about 40 years????? :-D
