Default cute valentine idea

my daughters and i just finished making these valentines for their friends at daycare...
FamilyFun: Valentine's Day Craft: Crayon Hearts - and More Family Fun
they turned out really cute and it was a good way to get rid of the cheap-o crayons that we always seem to get from people and restaurants...i can't leave 'em at the table knowing that they will just be thrown away!
i'm a crayola girl myself...won't use anything but.
so the other crayons usually go to waste...now we found a use for them!
i will make some recommendations...
1. try to use the bright colors only...the browns and blacks tend to make them look less fun.
2. it would be fun to have kids sort based upon color (reds, oranges, greens - if you were doing this for a craft at home - it would be hard to decide who would get which color at daycare.)
3. we used these reynolds wrap heart shaped tins (Alcoa: Reynolds Kitchens Fun Shapes: Promotions
they were easy to get out after cooling...and i found them at the $1 store...and i would have been really worried using something that i would be bound to cook in again if i paid a lot more for it!
4. to get the paper off of the crayon...i did a careful slit down the side of each crayon with a razor blade and let my 3 year old pull off the paper and break it up...she enjoyed that part! do it over something though you end up with a lot of "wax pieces". (i have also heard that if you put the crayons in the freezer the paper comes off really easily...but i heard that from the media center specialist here...and he drives me crazy...so i don't know that i trust that opinion...)
just thought i would share! enjoy...very cute on a card with "you color my world written around it!
