After we were married we really never used birth control...just the pull out method. If it didn't work, oh well. Then we decided to just do nothing and I was pregnant in 2 months. My problem was staying pregnant not getting pregnant.

I got a prescription for prenatal vitamins from my doctor. I'm not sure if you can get them over the counter or not. From what I can remember, constipation is a side effect of the vitamins. But Colace helps that go away.

Stop obsessing and have fun!!!!!

Geeze,,,, I feel like im obsessing already......
I've been on prenatal vitamins since last April. They were only about $5 for a 3 month supply (I used Caremark mail order). I've heard that over the counter work just as well but something about getting a doc's prescription makes me feel like the vitamins are 'better' in some way!

BTW my hair and nails have never been better!

Jo
Something I did before trying to get pregnant was to have a pre-conception appt with my OB. He was recommended to me by a friend and I wanted to meet him before trying to get preg. I also wanted to get any reccomendations he had before trying. So I met him in April, and he advised me to lose 5-10lbs (to get into my comfortable BMI area), get off some allergy and blood pressure meds (for migrane), and off the pill for three months. Turns out we got preg in month number 2, and I wasn't completely off the blood pressure meds but stopped them completely the day I thought we might have gotten preg. I was right, and Jason will be three in March LOL.

So maybe a trip to your current OB/Gyn would answer alot of your questions and they could prescribe the prenatals then (or give you lots of samples!) It sure settled my mind...

From my experience, The pharmacist goes and gets the bottle off the shelf and fills the script. I noticed that when I was waiting on a script in the pm at a 24hr pharmacy.

for me the vit goes in, two minutes later the vit comes out! no matter how, where or what I take it with. With T I got vit from a health food store that where capsules instead of the tablets, and did better with those ( the binding material in talbelts are very hard on my stomcah). This time around I take childreds chewables, I take three, and have done really good on them. My Dr. had the same problems and she took the gummies when she was pg. Make sure what ever you take has folic acid. Thats the big one for helping prevent birth defects.

WARNING....TMI ABOUT TO HAPPEN....

I don't want to gross you out, but another sign of ov is a thick mucus discharge. the mucus comes form the opening of the cervix to allow sperm to pass more easly. I also get a side ach on my right side for about a day. ( I am rt side gal!)

I can actually feel myself ovulate. It feels like a small twinge in my abdomen -lower than my belly button, about halfway between it and my hip bone. I usually only feel the right side though. Educate yourself on the "normal" time frames for human ovulation and just kind of pay more attention to your body around that time. Some women I've told this to have said, "Wow! Is that what that is?" and others have no idea what I'm talking about so I guess it depends on the person.

Regina is right, babies concieved early in the fertile window are more likely to be girls because X sperm swim slower but live longer. Y (or male sperm) swim faster but don't live as long.

I agree that this should just be a fun time for you guys. But I too obsessed a little too much so I understand.

Good luck!

Jackie
I also know when I ovulate, its a twinge, slight jab in your left or right side, but enough of a twinge to know! The term is middlesmetrz ( sp. ) Maybe your lucky enough to have that feeling, if so I would go with that and just have fun with it until your'e given a reason to work at it. Good luck!

Never sure whether people want to know the correct spelling on this sort of thing?! But if you do, it's 'Mittelschmertz' - German word meaning, literally, middle pain, ovulation being in the middle of the cycle I suppose!
