| I've had an interesting and horrible couple of days. I want everyone to keep an extra eye on their kids and neigborhood kids because of this..... About 3 months ago I noticed an older man in a truck drive down our street. My kids and the neighbor kids were playing outside in the front yard. He drove very, very slow --actually too slow for me. But we live in a new construction area and there are always people driving around to look at brick colors, shingles, doors, etc. He waved at me and then left. I didn't think too much about it. Some time after Labor Day, both of our kids were in school. Jim and I decided to mow the yard. I asked if I could mow and he edge because I needed the workout. So I'm looking down, keeping an eye on my mowing lines and look up and the same man/truck is parked across the street. He smiles and waves at me, then leaves. Jim came around the other side of the house and I tell him it's the guy from before and he wants to chase him down. I said no. So yesterday morning, Jim left for work at 7:30am and DS and I watched for the bus. (The bus goes past our cul-de-sac and then returns to pick up our son on the proper side of the street) DS opened the front door and left to walk to the bus stop. I walked over to the front door and there was the truck parked in our cul-de-sac. I stared at his truck and turned and yelled for my son to STOP. At that point the truck drove off. I called all of my neighbors and found out that he's been sitting in front of our house for the past couple of weeks. So much so, that our neighbors thought we had hired him to do contract work on our house. We started to piece our stories together and found out that he's was sitting in front of our other neighbors house at 7am last Thursday. We also figured out that he's showing up around bus pick up/drop off time. I'm very scared but focused on alerting everyone I know. I called the police and they can't do anything until we have a license number. They've increased patrols but other than that their hands are tied. I just wanted to share my story to remind us parents to be vigilant. Jen |

| Thanks for the heads up, Jen. It's good to see parents are being intentive on watching what's going on and informing others. Let us know if you get a license plate and what comes of it. |

| If your son rides the bus home from school it may be a good idea to contact the school and inform them of what is happening. You just don't know where that suspicious person is traveling to when he leaves from the front of your house. I hate to think of the negative, but in today's day and age, I suppose it is better to be safe than sorry. Also this is a perfect opportunity to remind the kids of stranger danger, although I am assuming that you have already done that. ![]() |

I did the day it happened. Then after school I physically picked him up at the bus stop and gave the information and description to his bus driver. It's a crazy world we live in. Jen

| Wow, how scary. I don't have children, but my sisters have 5 between them and it's scary to think what could happen while they are at school or at a friends house, etc. It is a scary, scary world we live in. Everyone always called my mom paranoid for keeping such a close eye on my sisters and I while we were growing up, but I think that is the only way you can protect your kids now a days. This creepy guy was bold enough to let you see his face and the kind of car he drives, even waved at you. That's almost enough to make me want to come to wherever you live and get this guy myself!!! ![]() |

I totally agree that you should contact the school. The district I teach in has had a problem for the last month with a man trying to pick kids up. Parents/ Police and the school have kept everyone very well informed, and we have announcements all the time reminding kids how to be safe, not to take rides, watch out for each other. Yesterday, in a neighboring town, a little girl was last seen at 4:45 and was found dead at 10:30! All the news is reporting is that murder is suspected - she was 11 years old, and was found next to her bike in a cemetary. I am terrified for the kids in our school! Our neighborhood is very proactive. We email each other when there is someone suspicious, and we call the police!! I agree it is hard when you development is under contruction - we went through that. Lately, with the housing market and job loses we have a lot of houses for sale, which brings people in. Thank you for reminding us to watch out for our kids - it never hurts.

I too would have picked up my child from the bus stop! Like I said better safe than sorry. As a child I would spend hours, sometimes ALL day outside with my friends and would only came inside for dinner at night. It is absolutely amazing how different my childhood is vs. my own kids. Sad really.

| So I think I've figured it out. Last night the news reported that a suspicious white truck with red "western" lettering is suspected in 3 burglaries in our area. He's suspected of stealing 2 plasma tv from a model home (one addition over from our addition--plus both additions connect up) and a furnace from a new construction home in a neighboring town. Now it makes sense, we've been doing finishing our basement and he could see what we had stored in our 3rd stall of our garage. He could see wood, doors (including an expensive etched-glass media door), and cabinets for the bathroom and wet bar. Freaky people. Jen |
