| congratulations on your beautiful daughter~boy do i miss that baby stage already! I just had to send along my 2 cents...(i can't keep out of a breastfeeding conversation...this forum is what i do at work while i pump!) i had a lot of difficulty with my first daughter, she drank from a cup (that resembled a shot glass )...i've also played with the idea of going for my lactation consultant certification (i'm currently a speech-language pathologist - pediatrics)...breastfeeding does not come easily! like christykay said...it takes practice! a lot of practice! and the toughest thing about it is that to make latching on easier and to keep up your milk supply...you have to be feeding (or pumping as a back up)...especially at this early stage! it does get so much easier and better. but it should be enjoyable as well...and if it causing too much frustration you have to decide what is important to you - breastfeeding or keeping everyone happy! look for a LLL (la leche league) group in your area. they are a wonderful group of women that are so willing to help out with any breastfeeding concerns that you might have! often they have weekly meetings (with kids in tow), or a LLL leader that is more than willing to talk with you on the phone, in person or just be there to offer advice and support. Or...contact a lactation consultant at your clinic or hospital, they can be a wealth of knowledge... also...i went to a continuing education conference once in regards to feeding...she had some information on helping babies with latching on during breastfeeding...if you want me to look up some of the "exercises" let me know. it's worth a shot! don't give up...i'm cheering you on! it's a great experience once you get over the hurdles...i promise, it will get easier and better! if you ever have any questions...feel free to ask! (sorry that was long...i'm done pumping now...gotta go!)
