| For those who have had their little ones head off to kindergarten, any pointers for moms? My son is off to his 1st day of kindergarten tomorrow. He seems fine with it, but I am an emotional wreck! He has gone to preschool for 3 years, but he is all day this year and he rides the bus. I know he will be fine in the classroom, I am just worried about the little things, bus, lunch room, bathroom, etc. I am having a hard time letting go! I would love to hear how some of you handled this!

| Jetgirls Member | Ah, first day of Kindergarten!! Such a milestone... try to relax a little and enjoy it. Our school likes the K to ride the bus the first day, so we put DD on the bus, then drove to meet her. We walked her to her class, took pictures, and then made our exit. Really, she did not need us, she had been to Pre-school, and she was super excited to go to school... it was all for me!! K teachers are usually sunshine, rainbows, and bunny rabbits - your child will be fine. We were really concerned about her doing her best and behaving, so we stressed that every day. Also, we wanted her to get into the habit of telling her about her day, so at dinner we always talk about what was her favorite part of the day, any problems, who she played with at recess, who she ate lunch with. If she has a friend over at dinner time, they get the same questions. Maybe have a special meal or a little party when he comes home, to celebrate his special day. Enjoy!! |

| I just sent my 3rd child off to Kindergarten a few weeks ago and all is well, but I clearly remember sending my first to Kindergarten- what do you know, my son was fine, I on the other hand was an aboslute mess and even cried. Ok I was the only parent in the Kindergarten classroom crying, but like I said I was an aboslute mess! From my experience the schools really cater to the Kindergartener's and the teachers are always aware of the little details. I was so worried that my child would get on the wrong bus, or not know which stop to get off of, but- everyone is aware of the Kindergartners and really hand walk them to their next destination for several weeks; ie: Cafeteria, Library, Bus Loading etc.. Like Adreamer said we too ALWAYS talk about our day at dinner. Who the kids played with at recess, who they ate lunch with, any new friends, new activities? Also, on the first day of school I always make a special treat for them to come home to. I have made cookies in the past, but this year I made a cake in the shape of a big pencil. The kids really enjoyed this and it made for fun conversation about the first day of school over a big slice of cake. Good Luck- You'll do great! |
