[quote:6b89f60ef1="lrcantrell"]Neither of my boys are thumb suckers either, it's very nice! They were both addicted to the pappy's but at least you can take those away. I've always wondered with twins before they're born if they know the other one is there and do they play with each other? I know they sleep better after birth if they're put together but I wonder if they interact before birth.[/quote:6b89f60ef1] I think i've heard before that twins know the other is there...and if one of them doesn't make it, the other always feels some sort of emptiness from birth on...but that's just "what i've heard" :greeny:

I think they'd HAVE to be in their own fluid sac otherwise wouldn't hte umbilicals get twisted? duh.. michelle already asked that (that'll teach me to read through to the end of the thread! )

Betsey (mommy2twisters) - where are ya when we need our questions answered?? hahaha oh wait.. you have twisters, that's right...twice the work, twice the fun!! :greeny:

Okay, now you've all got me seriously wondering. I haven't done OB nursing since nursing school but I'm going to go and find those textbooks and see if I can't get some answers here! It's driving me insane now that I don't know.
This may be crazy but I've just always had this picture in my mind of twins before they're born playing with each other. Crazy I know and I don't have a clue how it got in this brain of mine but it's there and I think it's so cute to think of them playing with each other. I'll let you know what I find about the fluid sac thing. I want to say it depends on the type of twins it is. If they're identical then they're from the same egg which splits but whether or not that produces two sacs I'm at a loss. I'll let you know.

Well, ya learn something new everyday!!! Apparently in the case of identical twins it depends on when the seperation of the egg (split) takes place. If it splits 8 days after fertilization then the twins share one amniotic sac! Now I still want to know if they play with each others fingers and toes :-D :-D

Like Kristie said....we need Betsey's input here!

But I can share what I know about this (which is very little!). My aunt (who is only 4 years older than me) had twins and they are almost 5 now. I was just back from college and wasn't really working yet so I spent a lot of time with her and helping her out. She had an u/s everymonth and while we never saw them "playing" together...we definately saw some pushing/shoving, etc. They were both around 7 lbs when they were born, so as you can imagine, there wasn't much room in there! One was up near her rib cage and the other was down near her opposite hip. The one on top was bigger and much more aggressive and that holds true today 5 years later! She was the one that always pushed her sister aside or kicked her out of the way, etc....

Once they were born, they didn't like to be apart from each other, they always wanted to be right on top of each other....I suppose it was a form of comfort and security for them. Anyway, I am by no means an expert, but I just wanted to share the limited experience I've had! :-D
