| I had my 12-week appointment & first ultrasound (U/S) yesterday. The U/S found that I was wrong on my dates, and my due date has now been pushed back two weeks to March 18th. The U/S picked up the heartbeat, and it was steady & strong. Our little 'bean' is doing very well, and everything is progressing as it should . We'll have to have another U/S in 4 weeks, as baby was too small to do the test that was supposed to be done. But hey, that's just another chance we get to see our little guy/gal! On the bad side, I had to have my bloodwork done. I detest having blood taken, but it's for a good cause! |

| YEAH! I'm so glad your ultrasound went so well!!! I could look at those little beans for hours and never get tired!!! Good luck with the blood work, I can't stand getting that done either. Ask your Dr. to give you a prescription for emla cream before you get your blood drawn. It's a numbing cream that you put on the spot for an hour before and you won't feel a thing. |

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | I have never heard of a numbing cream! I hate the blood work too, especially when I get stuck (pun intended) with an inexperienced one that has to wiggle my veins. Luckily it's usually only 1 time of bloodwork. They took 4 vials from me. You are lucky to be getting those u/s's! Little brat! Most people seem to be allowed one only, at week 20. So if you are a few weeks behind what you thought, that could be why those tests weren't working right away huh! Sorry you have to wait two more weeks though, it's always great to push the due date ahead, but pushing it back makes the 10 months go even longer! |

| That numbing cream is awesome! We use it on the kids at the hospital I work at for any needle sticks that they have to get. You can get it by prescription and it's called Emla Cream or Ela Max. Any Dr. could write it for you and get it filled at the pharmacist. I tried it on myself and couldn't even tell when the needle touched my arm, let along got blood from it! the doc may laugh and call you a wimp when you ask but from a very huge wimp let me tell you, it's worth being laughed at!!!! |

| Admin/Owner ![]() | the funny thing.. is when you do get the Ela Max, it's called "anal cream"... it's really supposed to numb your you know where! hahaha how do I know this? - I used it for microdermabrasion one time and it worked! but it does take almost a full hour for it to be fully effective. I'll never microdermabrasion again, even with the cream, it's just too painful for me, i end up red & sore for about a week... next time - laser facial! hahaha I've never tried it for bloodwork, altho it's not a bad idea (it's more nerves than pain for me)! now a days, i'm used to having 3/4 vials taken per year (thyroid tests) and luckily, my veins are easy to see when it's cold in the room, so *knock on wood* I won't have any of those horrid experiences! |

| It's not the pain associated with blood work that gets me, it's just the whole concept of sticking a needle in me and removing my hard-working blood that's just creepy! It's all totally psychological! (Pain isn't an issue, I drill holes in my own fingernails, remember ) |

| I am learning so much from you guys! I'm not pregnant yet, but i'm trying to keep track of all the stuff you guys talk about so i'll be more informed when I do get pg. Anyway, I was just watching the Suze Orman show and she was talking about life insurance for children. I"m not sure if any of you have this for your kids, but she said that it is a BIG waste of money. She said that because your kids really don't bring in an income you really don't need it and alot of insurance agents get bigger commissions on these types of policies. I just wanted to pass along that piece of info in case any of you are paying life insurance on your kids. Take care, Tanya |

| Admin/Owner ![]() | I dunno, i could see LI for kids being a waste of money but... I guess the only reason life insurance for a child might be good is for medical expenses & funeral expenses... say your kid gets really sick, has to go through a lot of treatments.. your the parents, therefore kiddo is dependent on you paying the bills.... if kiddo doesn't make it, then you have something to use to help pay the residual bills.... luckily, when my bro died, he was 25 and working.. so his work insurance took care of all his leftover bills & left us a few extra dollars as well....but then again, because he's over the age of being a dependent child, we wouldn't have had to pay anything anyways (from what i found out)..altho the leftover money was a nice "gift" that we really weren't expecting. the chances of kiddo getting sick like that really depend on lifestyle and genetics (heredity) mostly....for most parents, i could see it as a waste of money.. it just depends on if your willing to chance that and if you forsee anything hereditary coming out because if you wait until kiddo is sick, then you won't be able to get insurance.... last thing you want to do is plan on your kids death...but knowing what i know today, it's easier if you just do it (make the plans) at a very young age and get it done so the only thing you have to change is the size of the casket IF it ever comes to a head....we all hope that doesn't happen to anyone we know.... |

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | The maximum amount of insurance allowed by law that you can put on a child is $10K (for obvious reasons). That would pretty much only pay for a funeral and give you a little left over for time off of work to grieve. It costs about $6 a year per unit for all children when you add it as a rider to an adults policy. Of course we all want to hope and pray that this NEVER ever happens to any of us---but it's really not that much to pay when you consider that most people can't just come up with a few grand for a funeral, and things DO happen...my sister's baby was born with medical problems and probably won't live to see her 5th birthday, so they have to pretty much start saving for a funeral now. Consider also that if a child develops medical problems they will never be able to get life insurance on their own, or it will be severly rated. For example, a child that develops diabetes, keeps it under control, grows up, gets married, wants to get life insurance on themselves, and they can't or can't afford the premium. If the parents had started a child rider before they knew about the problems, then the child would be guaranteed a policy for at least 5 times (so up to $50K) the face amount when they are an adult, so it at least gives them a chance at SOMETHING. Not a big deal and probably something most of us will have to worry about, but IMO I don't think life insurance on a child is a complete waste of money. And seriously, how much commission can you get off of $6 a year? The agents usually get something like 100% of the first year and then a smaller portion there after, really not a big deal. |
