| I know everyone knows already but just a reminder. . .be sure your pets have collars and up to date contact information on them for this holiday weekend. Kids in our neighborhood have started shooting fireworks early (which always seems to be the case). We had a lost dog show up on our porch last night. Luckily he had a collar with tag and his owner was reached for an easy return. |

| My friend's daughter and boyfriend had their dog on a leash in their backyard (which backs onto a golf course) on Flag Day when they had fireworks go off. The dog got scared and ran away with it's leash and everything. They still haven't found it. They just had a story on the news about keeping your pets indoors and not bringing them to fireworks, who would even think of doing that??? Jan |

| My dog doesn't care about fireworks... It'd be bad if she did since we have them every single night at 9:30 pm... That's life near Disneyland... Last edited by Mrs.Alchemist; 07-05-2008 at 10:17 PM. Reason: typo |

| Both our babies have micro chips too. I even called around to the local pounds to make sure that they had readers that could read the chip information (there are different brands of chips and I wasn't sure what you had to have in order to read the chip). The only "not enough" thing about the chip is if someone wants & takes your dogs. My vet mentioned that lots of pure breeds are stolen, not so much run off. We have a very striking purebred (we think) solid white english setter. She is so kind and gentle, so goes to anyone that will pet her. I am always leary about anyone paying too much attention to her. By the way, ccbegay we got our boy's micro chip through a "Dog Days" Event sponsered by the local pound. It was really cheap. However it is the brand that you have to pay $10 to change your address when you move. We have moved & changed the address about 3 times. Our girl's chip we got at the vet's office. It was more expensive to implant but has free unlimited change of address. We have not moved once! So it cost about the same of each of them. But the fee to change the address maybe a consideration. And look for those events sponsered by the pound, you might get a special rate. |

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Ok...I have heard more of 'dog nappings' lately...they had something on the Today show about the most common breeds, like yorkies, shih tzuhs, etc...little dogs...kenzie is maltese and cute as a button (mho! haha!) but i hate to even imagine something like that...i'll have to look into something low-cost, all these cat/kitten shots and spays/neutering is making me a poor woman! haha...

Also, even if your dog does escape, whoever finds him/her may just decide to keep the dog... It happened to us once, and out dog even had a tag on, too, so it required no extra effort to return her... The only reason we got her back was because some neighbor happened to mention that another neighbor had a dog that looked like ours... Turned out it WAS ours! ![]() | |
