Fleas

We just returned home from the holidays, and found our dog had brought some new friends: FLEAS! We picked off the few we saw on her, and immediately threw her in the tub for back-to-back flea baths. After the first, we found 5 more fleas dead on the floor. That prompted us to put her back in the tub. After the second, no sign of fleas on the floor, on the towels, or in the tub. We're really hoping we nipped this problem in the bud. We may have over-reacted on this, but we left most of our travel stuff outside last night. I was hoping the temperatures in the teens would kill any remaining bugs. I rewashed 4 loads of laundry, just in case. I know, I know... I sound psycho, but I just do not want fleas in this house! They're so hard to get rid of. We have a tube of Advantix, and I was planning on putting that on her today. Do any of you have experience with that stuff? How about dealing with fleas? How did you get rid of them in your house and on your pet?
