I spoke to her on the phone and asked about the no pets rule. She said the condo has "had trouble" with cats and may start banning them (or something like that).
I called the mgt office and they said there is no problem with having cats there.

So it has nothing to do with allergies or possible kitty accidents on the rug.

I need to mail the signed lease to her tomorrow and I am enclosing a nice letter asking her to reconsider and offering a $200 refundable deposit. We'll see what she says.
Thanks for the replies!

Maybe she's a grouchy person who is a neat freak and hates pets personally. B's mom is kinda like that. (shhhhhhh don't tell him I said that!!!) When B's sister-in-law took in a rescue dog (a few months after hers died), his mom said "I don't understand why she's getting another dog, it's just going to mess up her house and she's going to have trouble selling it!"

That's the funny thing- she mentioned she had a dog! I replied "yeah pets are like a part of your family" and she agreed, but didn't say anything about MT furry family member.

After calling the Mgt office and confirming that there are no problems having a cat at the complex I wrote the landlady a very very nice and respectful letter asking her to reconsider. I'm going to assume she won't change her mind but who knows!

Nick said he was actually OK with not having the cat there since he was looking forward to a place without cat fur flying around! He's cold! Or a clean freak! Or both! (I'm kidding)

I lost the place! I don't have an apt to rent as of July 1!!!

The landlady said it wouldn't be ready until August and that she'll send me my money back. Great, now the search begins AGAIN.

I'm sorry it didn't work out. You'll find something soon, I know you will, just make it a major priority to get out of the house! Have you thought about going through an agent? It costs a little bit of money, but worth the no headaches!
Keep us posted!

Sorry you lost the place. Do you still have it in August if you don't find a place by then?

When I lived in MHT I did not like any of the apartment complexes I looked at, either that or they were too expensive. I ended up calling a real estate office and they handled the rentals for a couple of condos. I found one that was awesome and cheap. I loved it there! I didn't have to pay the agent a dime, I believe the owner did. It wouldn't hurt to call one or two and ask if they have any condo rentals.

Nope. She said she is putting the ad back in the paper and that if we don't have a place by Aug I can apply again Whaaaat???

My mom thinks she figured out her rent rate was too low and she is going to raise it. I guess we'll see.

I had a real estate agent assisting but told her didn't need her after finding the last place. I'll have to call her up again.

Nick and I are up against many other couples looking at the same areas and looking for the same rental $ so it is very competitive!

Amanda,

Have you thought about buying a condo in the complex where you used to live? When you decide where you guys are going to buy a house, if that is in the future, you can always sell it or rent it out, since it seems the rentals are in very high demand!

Jan- we definitely thought of that- it's a great idea, but an apt finally came through for us! Thank goodness!!!

It is in the same town my parents live (not sure if that is wise yet). I found it on Craigs List and it was underpriced! It turns out the owner (26 year old guy) got the townhouse from his parents and had no idea what to rent it for. I was the first to respond (he got about 20 responses!). It is a great place- 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, basement, fireplace, garage! It is semi furnished so the parents said 1 of the bedrooms will be used to store the son's stuff. It's OK since we only need 2 bedrooms anyway. I'm bummed that there isn't a pool there but I can sit on the back patio with a water hose!

We move in mid-July. I'm meeting the parents in person next weekend to discuss the details. We are so happy!!

I'm very happy for you! You didn't really want to buy into Symphony House anyway! LOL!
