some of these pet names just crack me up!!!!

just wondering, how did everyone come up with their pet's names?

My black cat's name is Sasha and her name came about with her sashaying her butt when she walked (as a youngin). she wasn't a good walker even kinda ran funny... so Sasha it was

My calico is Sprite and now i know why we named her sprite. you can pet her until she's done with you and she WILL let you know she's done by playfully trying to bite (i say playfully as i roll my eyes too). she's pretty spritely for sure! she was as a kitten too, always curious, jumping on things (esp sasha!).

My torti is named Peaches and we tried names for a good week with her...nothing "S" sounding was approved, so we tried peachy and peaches and she actually came to us using that name and there she blew...peaches it was!

We have 4 cats
Turbo was the first and we wanted something aviation related. We liked Jet, but sounded more like a black cat, so we thought Turbo sounded good. The irony of it is when he was about 10 months old he fell off of a cat tree and broke his leg. It didn't heal right, so he has a limp now and is kind of slow.

Phoenix was a stray that we took in. He just needed a cool name and Phoenix sounded right. Dh wanted it to have a different spelling but it never really stuck. I think a phoenix is like a mythical bird or something? It just fit his personality, he has such an attitude.

Then we got Squirt and Neo. We wanted a good couple name since we got them together and they are siblings. I wanted "squirt and nemo" from Finding Nemo and dh wanted "trinity and neo" from matrix. We comprimised, and got Squirt and Neo. Squirt is the in my pic that has a shirt on. Shes the only girl, and fat and spoiled!

We had 2 beta fish before, they were named Sushi and Chicken, but Sushi commited suicide and Chicken was killed by Phoenix.

she could probably win westminister just with the name alone! I love it!! I mean, she is part of the KTB and all

i mean, when you see the dogs on the floor and hear their names

announcer: "and here comes Sir Chauncey Laughs A Lot, he's looking prime tonight"

and think...ummmm...what do they call that dog at home? and then it comes to you...oh yea, they probably call the dog LOL at home! haha

When I was in college I got an orangish striped cat and named her Tigger. When I wasn't able to keep her, my parents took her (they wanted to kill me) and for some reason my dad decided to rename her Chico. The cat I have now is named Sonny, (that was what my grandfather used to call my dad). I have no idea why I picked this. But now that cat has been renamed Chico because for some reason when my son learned to talk, he called all cats Chico??? By the way it is a girl cat too! When my parent's cat died last year they got a new one and guess what they call it---Chico! At least this one is a boy!

Beta-fish also sometimes see their reflection in the side of the bowl, get mad, and fight with themselves...and DIE. Talk about suicide!

I had two betas named Phinneas and Gene, named after two characters in the book A Separate Peace. They were pretty cool, they'd let me pet them, and I would put a piece of food on the end of a chopstick and they'd jump out of the water to get it. Didn't know you could train fish, but I did! They also SHARED a bowl (2 male betas), which is REALLY odd. But when they weren't near each other, they got depressed. My ex killed them by putting the wrong chemicals in the water.

Currently my sister and I have a dog named Otie (hers) and a cat named Liam. These are the names they were given at the humane society. I just like the name Liam because it's Irish (as am I--kilt-wearing family and all!) and the meaning of the name is "protection". He's my guard-cat.

Our newest member of the family is a shelter rescue boxer/lab mix we named Riley. Nothing too fancy. We actually ended up taking a letter from each of the kids names and came up with that.

We were originally going to put all the kids pet name suggestions into a hat and choose a name that way, but only one child was going to wind up happy and we probably would have ended up with some wierd pet name of My Little Pony or Strawberry Shortcake . So Riley it is.

OK- please don't judge me. I have a cat named "Katt".

Here's the story:
On Halloween night 2002 she walked in to my house. One of the parents said"your cat wants to come in".. but I didn't HAVE a cat. Mind you, she is a long haired BLACK cat. And it is Halloween. Anyway, she was thin and started rolling around the floor and she was cute. Since she seemed hungry I fed her the old "cat food" I had- real tuna fish. After that I put her outside. The next morning I found her in my back yard, just standing there. This happened a few days in a row. I took her in and tried to find her home; I had an ad in the paper, put flyers up everywhere in my neighborhood, and called all the shelters. Nothing. Then one day (about 3 weeks later) a guy left a message on my answering machine: "hey I know that cat. The family moved away and abandoned her. My cat hates that cat. It looks like she's YOURS now! Ha ha ha", then he hung up.
I was going to give her to an animal shelter but because she was a few years old she would have been euthanized. The no-kill shelters were full. She was so well behaved that I decided to keep her.

All that time I didn't want to name her-- my thought was "if I name her, she's my pet!". To call her for food I would just say "come here cat". I kept calling her cat. When I finally decided to keep her I just couldn't seem to find a name that fit! To be "creative" I changed the spelling.

You should see what happens at the vet. When they call her name everyone with a cat stands up!
