So, as DH was leaving for an overnight today, he noticed that the kitchen sink was leaking underneath. Well he just called me from ATL,, and is giving me all these instructions as to how to fix it,,,, one thing about us,, is that he has all the patience in the world,, I, on the other hand DO NOT. So, for him sitting on the phone with me telling me this and telling me that and asking me to describe to him EXACTLY what I was looking at, was not a problem at all. For me,, I got sooo agrivated that I just wanted off the phone. WHo knew that as a pilot wife, you also get the title "plumber"!!![]()

Stuff like that is hard to do over the phone. It's MUCH easier to pull out a book on plumbing and figure it out that way. You guys are the opposite of us, I'm the patient one and Bill's the one who has to have everything happen exactly how/when he wants it to!

Add to that title: Bookeeper Accountant Housekeeper Sex Slave (not complaining about that one) Single Parent Gardener Maintenance person Chef I worry about that kind of stuff too. Being here alone with Em in our first house I often think "what if this breaks?" or "what if this happens?". But you have to be somewhat independant when you're married to a pilot. He's not going to be around much.... bottom line. It's real hard being here alone with Emily for nearly two months, but you suck it up and do what needs to be done. You'll get used to doing this kind of stuff on your own. It'll get easier.

The secret is to form bonds in your community with other families who have people skilled in these essential areals! I used to worry, now I don't! I have plumbing, electrical, HVAC, snow blowers, etc at my service without asking! This is all necessary due to FAR Part 121.899.5(c) that says that all domestic failures will occur in the absence of the flying pilot!

pretty much, we do it all when they're gone and unfortunately for us - *it* typically happens when the guys are gone! like today, my car suspension just went out - again - so i'm going to have to take the car into the shop - again - while dh is gone and wait a week to get it fixed (cuz i think it took 2 weeks last time)...only this time, i'm gonna tell my service guy to order the parts and then let me know when they get in! hahahaha can you believe it?! but one thing i swore i'd probably never do is fix plumbing and/or electric. every now and then i have to go play with the fuse box, but that's really the most i've had to deal with electricity and all...those types of issues are apt to go bad quickly and i'd rather a professional take care of it so no permanent damage is done...altho, if it's something minor - then i typically try to handle it myself first.d altho i really do wish i knew where the on/off water valve switch was for the entire house! that sure would help a lot if/when plumbing issues do come up!!

That's funny cause the day after I posted that a transformer blew at the power plant next door and we lost power. It was really cold here so I had to get Emily out of the house for the night. I packed up her stuff and called DH (of course he was gone) and he was all worried about the sump pump in the basement. He actually wanted me to send Em to my moms and for me to stay here, in the dark and COLD and bail out any water that might overflow in the basement. I just laughed at him and said "I'll call you from my mom's house". There's alot i'll do around here, but bailing out water in a scary, cold, and dark basement is not one of them. There's nothing down there worth alot anyway and it's not a "finished" basement so I wasn't overly concerned (it wasn't raining or anything). Luckily right before I left the power came back on.

Tell him to get a battery back-up sump pump, girl! We've had them in both our houses, and I wouldn't ever be without now.
