| Jetgirls Member | Hi everyone...I feel like I should reintroduce myself b/c I post so few and far b/w. Things have been busy for us lately so computer time is limited. Anyway, I hope you don't mind if my one and only post in forever is a vent. I'm not that negative...just frustrated right now so here it goes...*deep breath* Argh! I miss hearing something positive in aviation...at least from our stand point w/ ATA. DH is an FO w/ ATA and just got word the other day more furloughs are coming in August! W/ the given number now that will leave about 12 left under him. The furlough numbers aren't hard yet so they could change. If they change DH could be furloughed soon. Positive thought<---he still has a job and could still have a job in the coming weeks but not knowing is killin' me! DH is so frustrated as am I! He just told me y'day that we may have to scrap our annual motorcylcle trip to the mtns this year. We go every year to see the foliage, etc. Its an awesome trip! But now, that may be gone b/c of money! That's our only "out" w/ out the kids each year! It's my sanity trip! Probably to be no more! Oh woe is meeeee! It's just the constant living in limbo and NOT knowing! We finally decided to commit to updating our 14 year old house. You know, things are starting to look ratty and it's about time we invested in nice furniture instead of adding yet one more microwave table to store junk in! I'll be 33 this month and DH is 39. Time to stop living like college kids! Well, w/ potential furloughs, who can let go of a dime! Ok, blah blah...you get the picture...I'm going to get another cup of coffee and get myself awake before my little ones get up. I hope everyone had a wonderful July 4th and is having a great summer! I hope to post more often and become more a part of this online community! Have a good one!

| I feel your pain girl! I've lived under the 'Well, if I still have a job in X number of months....' cloud for over two years now. It's getting tiring and old. With the 33 1/2 % pay cuts DL took, we can't afford our house in Chicago, and we are in the process of selling so we can move to cheaper living in Indiana. We'll be close enough to CVG so he can drive instead of commuting out of ORD. (A pain in the @ss commute that's come to be!) As a furloughee myself, I wouldn't wish it on anyone (well, maybe a certain few airline execs.....). I sincerely hope he doesn't get furloughed. Spruce up that house, it'll make you feel better, and if it gets really bad and you have to sell, it'll just be that much more ready to be on the market! Our is 33 years old, and we're almost done redoing the master bath. It's SO stressful remodeling while trying to sell. I wish we'd done this years ago. |

| Jetgirls Member | Thank you so much for your reply! I get so frustrated when I go to friends' houses and they all seem to have these nice places. If they weren't nice, they had the money to fix them up. I don't have rich friends either. That's what even more frustrating! How do these folks do it??? Unless they are swimming in debt! Anyway, we are going to buy a few things for the house. It really needs carpet and a new kitchen but we'll skip on the kitchen remodel and fix up a few things just to brighten it or make it look like its some what up to date. Hopefully there will be no furloughs. If so, we'll muddle through...but while I'm still feeling negative I'll just say this: I'M TIRED OF MUDDLING! Thanks for the shoulder to whine on!

| Stacy--hang in there. We are here for you. They probably are swimming in debt. Or they bought things that were not of high quality and in a few years you will see that. Don't compare yourselves to others--it's not worth it. Since you spend time in your house, it is worth it to fix it up. You will feel better. I know the trip is something you love. But if you spend the time together and work on your house, it will make everyone feel better and make more sense financially. Your time will come. |

| Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh..but why not leave the states. Aviation isn't doing badly everywhere....Asia and the Gulf States - all real expat places, are doing GREAT (new regional airlines are springing up all over and the big names are doing well) Many people do it and enjoy a great standard of living (far higher than can be acheived in their own country). You are young enough...why not. |

| Just to add to what I said see this: http://www.travelwirenews.com/cgi-sc...046/004602.htmHONOLULU (eTurboNews) -- North Asia is set to capitalize on its massive potential for low cost airline growth, the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation said Wednesday. "We are at the trigger point of what should be an explosion in low cost air travel across the north of the region," Peter Harbison, CAPAÃ*s managing director, said. At least 12 new carriers are expected over the next 12 months in Macau, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan. Harbison added that, "These new carriers, like their counterparts launched last year, will have profound effects on aviation development in the region over the next few years. ìThe big issue: how fast governments are prepared to liberalize,î the CAPA director said. "We think conditions are ripe for (LCC) development in North Asia. There are 500 Million consumers within a three-hour flight radius in North Asia that can afford air travel. Momentum in LCC and new airline entry in North Asia is building rapidly, with China's first private carrier, Okay Airways, taking to the skies in March and four other new private entrants recently licensed by the CAAC," added Harbison. CAPAÃ*s upbeat expectation for low-cost carrier development in North Asia comes as the New Kitakyushu Airport, Japan, prepares to host the Second Annual North Asia Low Cost Airline Symposium on August 4-5, 2005. "We look forward to an exciting and challenging symposium program. We've already had considerable interest in the event from a wide range of government agencies, airlines, airports and supplier groups," said Harbison said, commenting on the upcoming Kitakyushu conference. |

| I've told you privately that if we had that opportunity years ago when DH was of that age, we would have done it! Hey, we might still consider it if the age 60 rule is not overturned in Congress. It would be an adventure! |

| We have no interest in going overseas like that. Too far from friends & family, I couldn't imagine up and taking my kids to the middle east or asia!? Young, childless & carefree it would probably be pretty fun though! Too bad I'm none of those 3 things! Now, I'm too old & set in my ways to do anythink like that. |

| The world is such a small place these days with no-where being more than 1 day flying time away! The life of an expat can be a great one...you form very close bonds with people in a similar situation as well as get a fantastic life experience of different cultures and a different outlook on life and all its wonderful possiilities. I know I'm biased because I've moved around a few countries now but I think that if you have the chance you improve your life - why not. The very worst that can happen is that you end up going back home and start over again. |
