Default Pilot Wife Newlywed

I saw Roz's post about how to make it after many years of marriage. I thought I would add my newby thoughts. So in my five + years of dating a pilot I have learned quite a few things.
The first is that pilot does NOT necessarily mean airline pilot. A private pilot has already done a ton of work, and earned the right to be called pilot.

Second, there are about a million ratings/certificates between private pilot and an airline job.

Third, as much as they care about you and want the best for you there are times it will seem that flying will come first. It is not that they intentionally think of it that way. It is that they see you as the flexible thing.

Fourth, pilots have passion. They have passion for their flying and for their family.

Fifth, they do not/will not/ and have not ever had nor will they ever have a schedule that remotely resembles that of an 8-4 job, and that is ok.

Sixth, getting the commerical and the CFI, etc does not mean that they will be making money flying, it means they won't be spending as much. (There is a big difference.)

Seventh, pilots have their own language. Try to understand it, but know that every time you start to get a handle they will add to it.

Finally, there is nothing in the world quite like a pilot. It takes time, patience, and support for them to make it to where they want to be. They will see all that you do for them, and return it tenfold.
