Default Pensions, Social Security, etc.

So, given the pending demise of defined benefit pension plans, what does everyone think of W's proposals for Social Security? We should give this serious thought and write our representatives and senators with our views!

For those of us with commercial pilots who have to retire at age 60 (although there are bills introduced in both the house and senate in January to increase that), how will this impact us?

Discussion anyone?

BAH! that's all i gotta say...

we already have it - it's called a 401(k)

I don't think we should stick our ss funds into the stock market! england's already done that and look what happened to them - most of them lost out!

the problem is that our gov't is borrowing using our ss money - that's why we're running low.. not cuz it's a failing project. it'd be true to it's goal if our gov't just didn't borrow money from it! it's pretty much exactly the same as the airlines borrowing from the pensions and then not paying it back.

but that's based on just what i've heard about the situation and IMO.

I would like to be able to take a percentage out and invest it how I see fit. I would not use the entire amount and from I have read it would only be a small amount anyway. The other info I have read says it is not mandatory, but an option. So I think it is a good idea. No one is forced into it if they don't want to do it, but those that would like to should have the option. The only problem I see is those who end up making bad choices and then put the blame on others such as the gov't. Don't take the option if you aren't going to take resposiblity for your actions! I think that is the problem with alot of society these days. It's easier to blame others than take responsibility for yourself!.
