OOPS! yeah, i heard about the sick calls, another asa pilot told me that a friend of his went in, asked for the day off (same situation, he was getting married) he didnt get the day off, so he used a sick day, called in sick and they fired him,,,,,, YIKES!!! no prob, gotcha covered!

did he bid vacations already? could use that too!

the only way to get around it is to bid it and see what happens...he could bid his reserve so that his "required duty off" days are on the days of the wedding. definately do not talk to mgmt cuz once they get the idea that you might call in sick without really being sick - that's a whole bag of whoopa$$ you don't wanna open!

No, no Jo--he's on probation! They can do anything they want to him for the first year. You may have to resort to plan B.

Anyway, thanks for all the good vibes. Charlie is engrossed in all that technical stuff. He says it's like transitioning from flying an airplane to managing a computer. He says they are no where near the airport and the company hired a special shuttle for them. So if I go down or if he comes home, we have to find our own way to and from the airport. But it is 80 degrees down there!

Evan called to report that he got a 90 on his first exam for this session and is loving school. That's a good thing. And he is loving the pizza stone I got him. That is also a good thing!

I picked up another chunk of programs in PA. So I moved my HR Rep that had been with us for the last four years in NJ to the new programs in PA. Then I hired a new person from the outside to replace her. And a part-time administrative person. So we just completed the training and switching. I spent the morning yesterday getting the original person settled in the new program. Then I high tailed it 50 miles to the NJ program to check in on the new hires. Today I was on my feet by myself at a job fair where they had us on tile floors. But the display I had made rocked and attracted lots of people! Tomorrow I go to Delaware to do training all day. My program director in NJ wants to fire the chief administrator for the girls' program and I won't let him because he never documented any performance issues over the last 5 years. And he never gave her any training or developmental training. So we have a big meeting tomorrow at 2 PM in NJ--but I'm in Delaware. He wants me to complete training (which is scheduled to 2 PM) and get back to NJ by 2 PM. Hello--let's use the telephone! I'm so exhausted already. And I keep forgetting to make my hairdresser appointment. Oh and I broke my favorite Lagos Philadelphia Heart necklace today.

oh my goodness,,, what on earth could plan B be? Move the wedding date? We already have the invites printed and everything,,,, he bid vacation already and it was awarded for the mon-thurs with our wedding that following sat,, so that doesn't help much,,i guess march is a pretty popular time for vacation since it's spring break for a lot of school kids,,,, i dont know what else to do,, trying not to stress about it too much.....

Holy cow.. that's not good...vacation right before the wedding, but not included in the vacation time - ouch!

best thing you can do if he was already awarded vacation is to move the wedding date to vacation time... if you don't want to stress anymore - move the date! things can easily be squared away because it's only january and your only moving it a few days from it's original date!

guests won't be too put out by having to travel a few days from the original date and if they do have a problem with it - tell em too bad, it's your wedding and you want it going off without a hitch!!

if you don't move the date, you'll end up stressing over it until way into february, by then, it's too late to prepare everyone ahead of time for a "move of date" and that's even more stressful!

plus, keep in mind that it's pretty typical to have to work before and/or after a vacation week and calling in sick before/after vacation (when your not sick) is a BIG NO NO (more than the "call in sick every once in a while/play hooky thing"!)

honestly, IMO, i would move that wedding! just write the change of date on the invitations - no big deal, it's just a piece of paper!

My post disappeared, but Kristie said what I was saying! Move the date to the few days before. It's part of the industry. It's not worth losing a job over it!

your post disappeared?

I did notice the server slowed down a bit, dunno why!

I have to ditto what Roz said: nothing's worth losing the job over and that includes a wedding! once you lose a job in this particular industry, it's like being blacklisted and other airlines take that into serious consideration when hiring.

holy moly,, you gals really think we should move the date? I wonder if our reception venue is even available..... geez, seems like a lot of work to do. I'm thinking (hoping) since he's on reserve that he can just bid a reserve schedule that has those days off,,, he gets one week with four consecutive days so hopefully that works, for january, he got his first choice, keep your fingers crossed for us
