Default Re: hi new to board and frustrated with dh job!

Hi There!!

I can definitely relate to your posts!! What company does your DH work for? My DH works for Shuttle America (also a commuter) and they just opened up a base in Dulles (D.C.). If it's the same base I know ALOT of guys that would be willing to share living expenses. I know it is REALLY expensive when you are on reserve. Luckily my DH holds a line so he is able to commute (hopefully your DH will get a line soon).

When my DH was based in Fort Wayne he talked to the manager of the local hotel to let him sleep in one of the rooms in an area of the hotel that was being renovated FOR FREE. In exchange he did some odd jobs around the hotel. Maybe your DH could work something out!! My DH has also slept in the FBO at times. It can be really tough.

I think sometimes it's hard even for other aviation families to understand. I know that $1,000/mo doesn't seem like alot - but you really need his paycheck at home - don't you!! And his paycheck is probably only $1,200/mo. I know that there is NO WAY I could pay the bills here at home on my salary alone!! And the per diem isn't that much when you're on reserve because you don't overnight anywhere usually. You don't get paid per diem to sit in your base!!

It will get better. You really do need to look at this lifestyle longterm though. I wouldn't count on your DH leaving the industry anytime soon. Most pilots would never leave no matter how bad it gets.

Good Luck.

Tanya
