You could fill it with lots of little pieces of paper and write on each one "I love you" or a memory or something like that. It would be time consuming, but memorable!

( we did this for my dad one year for christmas, he said all he wanted for christmas was love and happiness so we wrote "love" and "happiness" on a ton of post its and put them in a shoe box.)

Awwww, I think that's a great idea! He will so love it. I can write on a lot of them (for the personal touch), and for the rest, as pure filler, I'll just use the computer and printer to speed up the process.

He's not big on sweets so the traditional candy wouldn't be the best choice. I could fill it w/ small wads of paper ...
Don't know if hes a drinker but my family usually puts those single shot bottles in the ADULT pinatas. Also some mini munchies bags of chips or packs of gum. Just an idea

Well, today was the official 1st anniversary of our wedding. We celebrated on Saturday b/c he left for a trip today.

We headed up to Baltimore's Greek Town and got some saginaki (flaming cheese) and the single largest plate of scallops we've ever eaten. We were stuffed. We highly recommend Zorba's Tavern.

As for the gifts, you may recall that we had decided to stick w/ the traditional line up, meaning year #1 is paper. While most wives would turn their nose at the gift, I was thrilled to get Hillier's Fundamentals of Motor Vehicle Technology. Call me weird, but I've really been wanting to get up to speed on the ins and outs of what goes on under the hood of a car.

I got him the Time Magazine issued for the week of our wedding. While not all that interesting only a year later, I know we'll look back at in in a decade, and then some, and just laugh and laugh. The fun part, though, is that I wrapped his magazine in a paper mache pinata. He clubbed it open w/ a softball bat and out fell gobs of paper love notes, gum, mints (he loves those for his trips), and the magazine. It was a hit (har).

that is so cute--my husband is hardly the type to whack a pinata!!
I have to laugh at myself (one of those "I am such a goof" moments)--I first read "Hitler" not "Hillier" and wondered "is she really THAT weird??" and what does Hitler have to do with cars??
Love the magazine idea. What's fifth anniversary?? Ours is 5/5/10.
Pardon me for thinking what I did--that's why I do those "goofy" threads--it's only gonna get worse as I get older!!

Looks like wood. I can only imagine the kind of wood present a husband would offer.

We just celebrated our tenth -Diamond. I filled a basket with Diamond brand Nuts (hubby loves to snack on them) and got him a diamond sharpener for his shop. The plan was to take a trip to Tucson but everybody got sick. We'll have to do that on our 15 year anniversary of the day we met next April!
