I do miss him when he is gone, and there are times when it can be hard, but all in all I guess we need to focus on the positive aspects of it all.... like you mentioned about getting to miss each other and how great that reunion is after many days apart.

Thanks for this thread.. it really makes me feel pretty lucky..
Soldiers started out going to Iraq for a year, which I thought was bad, but now their stays have been extended to 15-18 months. Many don't even get to come home for R&R.

It's effing ridiculous.

(I'm happy you like the thread! )

You know, I heard something about that on the radio the other day! I think it was on NPR - someone was interviewing someone, who said he thought the draft was probably a good idea.

I think I dismissed a lot of it because I was thinking, "Yeah, right...good luck with that." But hell - you never know.

Another off the subject thing: My helicopter pilot brother is back from Iraq for good! He's stuck in fort hood because he has something wrong with his foot and they won't let him come home til it's fixed, but at least he's out of danger!

That must feel great for you & the rest of the family!

(How's he dealing with it? I've heard it can sometimes be a sort of conflicted feeling to be back when the rest of the people you work with are still there.)

Oh no, they all came back together, done with the assignment. He's just got some kind of tendon/muscle problem and they're kind of holding him hostage 'til it's fixed. My SIL and niece drove up to see him though, and smuggled him home Saturday. He's allowed to go 50 miles from base, though this is ALOT further than that! Unfortunately I was working and didn't get to see him. He was on his way back closer to base by the time I got off work.

Aw, man! Luckily he'll be back for a while, though, so you'll get your chance.
