Default What do you do when you are sick and hubby is away...???

Okay, I should be use to this, but I am not. What do you do when you get sick (I mean you can't even drag yourself off the floor to hit the bucket sick) and your hubby is on a 4 day? You have kids to take care of and a house to keep up, but you can't even take care of yourself. So what does everyone else do? I have horrible migraines that make me so sick that I vomit. I can't even look at light and the sound of my own voice makes me ill. I have medication for them, but the medication knocks me out. There isn't a lot of medication that I can take because I don't do the birth control thing, so I never know when I am pregnant....which for the past 7 years, hasn't been too often of not being pregnant. So, I would love any advice to what everyone else does. I can handle vomiting, usually the kids just follow me to the bathroom. Just every thing else...

I let the house fall apart for a few days. Rent movies, have mini campouts in living room or callin for a major favor with a friend. Heck, even ask dh to call in sick for part of the trip.
Ughh, I remember last winter I was sick and had a fever of over 101 and couldn't even lift my head off the pillow. I had to beg my inlaws to watch the boys cause i couldn't do a thing.
Wish I was closer, I'd help you out!

I usually have movie day for the kids. Do you have any neighbors that can pitch in? I have two neighbors who take my kids for day long playdates so I can try to rest if DH is on a trip. Hope you feel better soon!

Honestly? I suck it up and deal with it

I've never been as sick as you sound, and I've only got two kids to deal with, but when I'm sick (even if dh IS home) I just get to feel like shit and deal with it. It sucks. Generally, I'll do as little as possible, do dishes and cook, but I'll let the cleaning go. No picking up toys, cleaning of kitchen, etc. I'll lay on the floor and let the boys climb and jump on me. I can lay still and they're entertained with "Jumping Bag Mommy".

Can you farm the kids out to grandparents, in-laws, etc? Even if they're split up (a couple kids go here, a couple go there..) you could at least have a day or two to try and recover.

Yes, for the past 7 years, I always sucked up 9 months of vomiting every day, but the migraines are a different story. With my pregnancies, I still was able to take care of the kids, even with an i.v. attached to my arm with medication to help control the vomiting issues. But, like you mentioned dealing with 3 or 4 kids and being sick is easy; I now have 6 little kids to deal with along with being sick. I have actually been hospitalized for the migraines. I can deal with typical migraines, but it is the ones that you get once or twice a year that you would just love for your head to fall off.

I was lucky, my mom and dad are off for the summer, and they came over last night. I actually have heavy narcotics that the docs have prescribed for this, but it just knocks me out. So, it was nice of them to come over and feed the kids and put them to bed.

I was just hoping everyone else might have some ideas of what to do when they are sick....

Oh, and I love the idea about the camp-out. I am thinking I am going to get a sick box...things like special games, coloring books, treats, movies, etc. that can only be played with when Mommy is ill. Sometimes, in the past, the kids bring a table cloth into my bedroom floor and have a picnic dinner and/or lunch. That is a big winner at my house.

I usually call my mom over if she's not working. If she is, I just do the best I can. I just go back to "basics". Emily gets fed, changed, and put down for naps and bed, and I make sure she's safe of course. Other than that i'm laying on the couch or in the bathroom. She watches alot of cartoon network those days.

It's been really hard with this pregnancy. I've been EXTREMELY sick. I did call DH home one time because I had a bad migraine and couldn't function.

Hugs to you sweetie! I hope you can find some reinforcements!

That's why DH and I decided that no matter what, we were going to live where we wanted (for us that meant near family) and that he would have to commute. Luckily he lives in base now but he's done the commuting thing too.

I hope you're feeling better!!! I wish I could be there to help you!
