Default Re: Moving ? - Really what's the difference

My DH would bow at your feet. I refuse, and I do mean refuse, to move. And I don't just mean out of the country, I mean out of the state! I grew up with a tight, supportive family all within a 30 minute drive. I realized in college and with my teaching job how lucky I was to have all that stability in my life growing up. I want our kids to have that same opportunity. His family are overseas, our kids only see them a couple of times a year at best. So, my family will happily do the job. On any given day I have an aunt, cousins, etc. chasing my kids and hanging out at my house. I support DH's career, and I want him to be successful, but I am not moving for it. Besides, if I tried to leave, I would be meet by my parents with rifles at the front door! LOL

I admire people who are willing to pick up and move, it would definetly be an adventure and an awesome experience for your kids.

I was poking around on the yahoo groups and saw a group for wives of EA pilots- you might want to look into joining the group and seeing what they have to say about living overseas. I just did a search in the groups for pilot wives and it came up-
"EMIRATESAIRLINESPILOTWIVES
< 5 Members, Archives: Public
A place for all Emirates Airlines pilot wives to come together to share. "

Probably going to want to stay away from the cheatingpilotswives group though- the description seems kinda bitter. (I did a cut and paste with the description)
"cheatingpilotswives
347 Members, Archives: Membership required
This is a group for wives of pilots who have had their husbands cheat on them. It is a group created to give support to those women who have had their pilot husbands cheat on them; especialluy when it involves slimy flight attendants. This group offers tips on how to catch the husband and the other woman. This group is a sounding board for all those wives of pilots who are in emotional pain. "

OUCH!! At first I giggled, but then, OUCH! I cannot imagine being as supportive as you have to be with profession and then have your DH cheat.

Actually, I was kinda suprised that the group membership was as high as it is- 347 members? That's a lot of angry wives!

I remember the girl that started that. She was from the orginal yahoo pilots wives group. She actually lived near me and I met her and her son at the park once. Her husband flew for Vanguard and was cheating on her with a F/A. They ended up getting divorced. I signed up for that when I saw it posted on here just to see what it was, it's all spam and porn type stuff, I don't think there are really any members other than that type of junk!

Good luck with your decision about what airline route to go. You never really know if the right decision was made until you retire!

Phew! Sounded horrific (and you'd think she could at least try to avoid typos in her group description!) Miaow, that's the journalist in me

However - I do know (anecdotally) of lots of broken pilot marriages. And beyond that, lots of cheating pilots whose wives probably don't have any idea. It's my worse nightmare, I must admit.

I do subscribe to the view that a certain type of male will cheat whatever he does for a living (and my husband is certainly not that type) but it's unavoidable that this lifestyle just makes it much, much easier to cheat.
