Steve was gone all weekend and we had a closing on our house late yesterday afternoon. I decided we should celebrate Valentine's Day early & go to PF Chang's--I had been wanting to try it forever. Anyway, we did and had a nice evening together as I crossed my fingers for a snow day. Well, he was on reserve and got called back out at 2 a.m. and won't be back until tomorrow. I'm glad we celebrated early.

DH took care of dinner for us. He ordered stuffed pizza shaped in a heart (giordanos) had cnadles burning and wine out when I got home. It was sweet of him. I of course fell asleep 30 minutes after dinner and that was our night.

Dh got home late..so I made a delicious steak dinner with new potatoes and string beans. I made a ton of chocolate Chip cookies and sugar cookies(personalized with icing writing) and homemade chocolate truffles with Raspberry filling. DH thought I bought the cookies and truffles at the store. LOL Nope..homemade baby! Did I forget to mention.....VINO? Lots of it! It was soo good. The wine I bought was a Cabernet Suvignon (California) called Barefoot. Funny name but so GOOD! Not too sweet and not too bitter. Loved it!

DH cooked like a mad-man on V-day. I came home from school to a sashimi (sp?) platter with heart shaped hummus. Grilled vegetables, grilled shrimp, homemade pesto and couscous. Finished off with a green tea and some Shiraz. I'm not sure how many cultures he mixed but it was delicious.

He even picked up special sushi platters for everything. It looked awesome and I took pictures, I'll post them later along with recipes. We'll be repeating this recipe for our next guests.

Funny thing, DH accidently included habanero peppers (hottest pepper sold in the stores) with the vegetables. We each took a bite of those peppers and we couldn't eat for 15 minutes. My mouth was on fire. He felt terrible for including the peppers but I told him romantic stories always have a hint of hilarity (at least for us).

I was at a conference all day, so DH helped me out by picking up our son from daycare and treating us all to Steak 'N Shake. I was in no mood to tolerate standing around in a restaurant waiting for a table for an hour so I went with somewhere where I knew very few other valentine dinners would take place. DS slept in the booth for the whole time thought, so it actually was pretty date-like, if not necessarily romantic.

we've gotten so used to not being able to do anything for Vday that we just no longer celebrate it anymore...

interesting story this week though in that doug's captain got "in trouble" because his wife doesn't even like flowers and he sent her flowers.. only she wasn't home in time to receive them, so she would have had to travel all the way into SLC to buy them (40 min drive so says doug).. and so he got ticked off at her for not wanting to go get them... talk about role reversal! so anyways, the got pissed off at eachother and the wife apologized and said she'd like him to axe the order and just do a nice little dinner at home with him and he wouldn't even read his email to see her apology... weird eh?!
