| My FIL always asks "Where is he at?" He is shocked when I do not know. Like everyone said, there are dozens of places he might be. As a military wife I have people argue or my dh's branch for the last 18 years. Everyone assumes he is in the Air Force. "Doesn't the Army ONLY have helicopters?" Um, no. I also get a lot of comments about him being away overnight 10-14 days a month. Somehow people focus on when he is away not how awesome it is he off about 1/2 the month. My Dad works an entire year to get what my dh has off each month! |

| Hahahahaha, this post is hilarious. I am a newbie on the site and dont know any other pilot wive/girlfriends, so I am so happy to learn I am not the only one who gets those dumb questions. My fiance loves the one about...oh so your fiance is the first officer? Who is the pilot?? haha. |

And just recently one of my frineds just asked me why Nick and I don't "fly off somewhere nice" for our wedding ceremony instead of doing the J.O.P. here. It's not that easy and heck Nick is tired after crossing the Atlantic!

| People also assume they make alot of money. We get hit up from people all the time wanting us to donate. "You're husband's a pilot, you can afford it." Yeah right.

| When DF and I just started dating, I made the ultimate No-No... I mentioned out of conversation that he was a pilot. It was a group of my friends, and it was everyone's first time meeting DF. The girls knew his job, but I guess their SO didn't. DF was bombarded the entire night with every question in the book about flying. Poor guy, he wasn't able to just have some casual convo and relax. Needless to say, it was the first and last time I made that mistake. When it's people who understand the industry it is one thing, but those (my family included) who see it as a "glamorous" life style it can be a bit much.

| Jetgirls Member | Yeah, that's the last thing we try to bring up when we are at a social event. DH thinks he can get out of it by mumbling "I'm w/ the airlines" (you know...general comment) but any social inquisitive person is gonna ask "oh, what do you do there???" THEN the questions just start rollin' in!! Sometimes we've been able to get by w/ the "he travels alot on business" comment. But that's a 50/50 shot.

They jsut ignore him, so he ignores them when they ask that question now. One question that I got that annoyed me was do you fly for free? I usually didnt answer. I hate answering them and they think I am famous or something. |

| Jetgirls Plus Member ![]() | When I first told my dad I was dating a pilot, my father basically thought my boyfriend was a player that went from city to city and had a different woman in each. You can't get much more stereotypical than that. But he has met him several times now and probably feels like a huge idiot for saying those things. ![]() |

| I think one of the comments my hubby hates is the "I thought about being a pilot." What is he supposed to say to that? Yeah, I thought about being a XXX (whatever their profession is) so now that makes us "brothers?" or Yeah, how long did you think about it, a min, an hour? Geez, I know it is all just social chit chat, but give him something to work with. |
