| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Roz, we just got the same thing from DB's sister-in-law. She wants to get home to MI for her dad's surprise birthday party, but they are short on money right now. She was asking all sorts of questions about the buddy passes... most specifically "so, those cheap stand-by tickets you get, could I get stuck somewhere if I use them?" Oh boy. Last night after I picked him up, we had to go straight to this church dinner with his parents, so he was in his uniform. Is that fun or what? Instant conversation piece. Sometimes the attention is fun, but we've both been working all day and are at that mental point where we can't even make small talk. All we want to do is eat & go home and veg (not to mention that we haven't seen each other in 4 days). As we're talking to different people, his mom introduces him to someone he hasn't met before and says, "this is my son Brian, he flies small jets." ![]() |

| I am fairly new to this whole career change. Me and my FH were both Journaism majors and after we graduated he (after a lot or encouragement from me ) decided to go to flight school. So I have only recently started telling people that he is a pilot. After I read this thread, I laughed I really hadn't heard any of those statements... until I started my new job.It was literally the day after I was on this site. We were doing the "get to know you game" and my FH came up. I swear to you ladies, you all would have pulled your hair out! I heard everything! " Oh so you are going to get to fly everywhere for free" , " Doesn't it bother you that you dont know where he is right now", "Wow, you must trust him a lot" , or the best one " You are never going to have to worry about money now huh!!" As I sat there thinging about all of our combined student loans (enough to make a grown man cry) and the low typical starting pay for a pilot, I immediatly thought of you all and laughed. I had to just smile!! The timing of it was so coincidental I couldn't believe it! |

| The one I get the most is when people ask who Brian flies for and I explain that Southern Air is a cargo company they always say, "Oh, so would he like to maybe someday fly commercially?" ![]() |

| Our favourite one is (when I say my hubbie is a First Officer)- "so, would he like to be a pilot one day?" Hubbie often replies " well, at the moment I just carry the Captain's hat, but I'm hoping to work up to carrying his bag soon too"!! I often can't even work up the effort to explain! Other ones already mentioned - " so you must trust him", "don't you worry about the sexy women he flies with every day" and "wow, you get to fly everywhere cheaply in first class, then?" Urggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh! |

| Jetgirls Member | Yeah...all this is new to me, but I have heard ALL of these and then some! The thing I just hate is the "oooooooh, he's a PILOT, how COOL!" And I say, "Yeah...not really." And when they ask WHY, it's so hard to explain how NON-glamorous the lifestyle is for him and for me! And I hate how people think he's loaded just because he's a pilot. To me that's so funny! My sister said, "You just like him because of the money" and I laughed and laughed for hours. A brand new FO with Mesa sure rakes it in! |

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | My grandfather used to always say that to DH! We just smiled and tried to explain what it meant to be a FO and CA. DH was so cute about trying to explain it to my grandfather. It was great when he was finally CA again (after going back to FO after 9/11) because we didn't have to expain it to my grandfather anymore! |

| DH also hated it when people assumed he didn't fly the plane b/c he was the First Officer. When DH got upgraded, his aunt was like..."OH, he gets the fly the plane now!!" LOL I also hate the word Co-Pilot. When it comes down to it, they are both the pilot and both each others Co-Pilot. Also, a lot of people say "Your husband must make a lot of money." Um, no.
