| This is the longest we've been away from each other. I'm bored to tears!!!! He's in AZ right now working on his CFI. All the 2-year instructors at his school are too busy running the school that he can't get any instruction time in, so he went to another school to finish his CFI initial. He'll come back to Cali to do his CFII and MEI and whatever else there is. At any rate .... I'm alone for my second weekend and it's killing me. I don't have enough friends to keep myself busy. I spent 8 hours yesterday watching ST: TNG episodes that I've had tivo'd. And now, the school's only C172 RG is broken and might not be repaired for the check ride tomorrow. So he might be there longer. If the plane doesn't get fixed by tonight than his check ride, which is scheduled for tomorrow, won't happen. The examiner is booked solid for the remainder of the week. If he has to come home and then go back out to AZ he's going to make the school pay for travel expenses since it's their plane that broke and delayed his training. They boast being able to get you done in 8 days and if they can't hold up their end of the bargain ..... I'm usually OK during the week without him here. But this week work was really hard. I came home from work on Thurs just wanting a hug and couldn't get one. We chatted a little bit via gmail and that was nice. Actually, I helped him reformat his lesson plans so he could print them out. That was great. I was so happy to feel helpful and needed. Maybe this should've gone in the venting folder ...... Just an update on our situation I suppose. I hope he's a CFI soon. It'll come with a raise in addition to the all important necessity of time-building so he can finally apply to the airlines. |

| Jetgirls Plus Member ![]() | Hi- I'm here in AZ and I was wondering what school is he going to? Nick went to WestWind in Phoenix. I will need to get used to being away from Nick. In May he's going to the East Coast and I'm staying here. We'll be 2500 miles apart for at least a year! Nick put things into perspective for me though. He reminded me that the wives and girlfriends of our military are away from their significant others for a lot longer period of time. His good friend was in the Army and was away from his wife (right after they got marrried) for 18 months in a foreign country! It made me think that I should be thankful for the time we have together! Also, I am super busy with hobbies and I have 2 part-time jobs and a home business. I am so dang busy that it will take my mind off of him being away! Unfortunately in this industry you might have to get used to him being based in a different state from you. For me at least, it doesn't make sense to follow him around the country, especially since things change so much! You can always come to this site when you're feeling lonely too. Amanda |

| I check in daily, just don't have much to say usually. This might seem naive, but we plan on living where he's based in the early years. I can deal with the time away. I'm not having problems with that. Except on the weekends. I only have a few friends in the area, and none that are close enough to really hang out with on the weekends, so we stay home. We're homebodies. I literally had to force myself to get out of the house yesterday. I made myself walk to the store to buy milk. I'd rather not say publicly what school he's at right now becuase it's very small and in a small town. But it's not westwind and it's not Phoenix. He's only there for his CFI and then he'll be back in Cali to finish his training since you don't need a 2-yr instructor for the remainder of the instructor ratings. It was tough for his "boss" to let him go do this, there wasn't any possibility he was going to let him do all his instructor ratings there. |

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | I can relate....We don't live at Brendan's base so he has to commute to work. For the past year, it seems the only commutable lines (he likes to do 4-days) have been working Thurs-Sunday or Friday-Monday. So I am home alone all the time. It really sucks. And I honestly don't have any friends! I have friends at school where I teach, but they are not really friends I would go out with. We went to college in Florida so all our friends are spread out everywhere. We both grew up in the area that we currently live, but when I went to college in Florida, my friends decided they were angry with me. I tried to keep in touch, but when they didn't really respond when I was home on break in college, I finally gave up. I can't wait until the summer. I don't work and Brendan has 2 weeks of vacation...which will turn into almost the whole summer off (ExpressJet has a great vacation policy) so we will finally have some time together. And Brendan was able to rearrange his April schedule and now has my school vacation off with me. So we may go to Florida, or he is even thinking back to Hawaii (we'll see, Hawaii we will have to pay for a place, Florida is free...his parents have a condo on the ocean....and we are cheap!). I wish I could say it will get better.......but......in this industry. My only hope is that Brendan at least gets a call from another airline soon. He is really getting burned out. And it isn't helping that FO's at his company are getting jobs at CAL because of who they know....this industry really stinks sometimes. Now I'll end my vent! ![]() |

| Admin/Owner ![]() | talking about burnout.. doug's been doing the same trip for the past 2 months! he's so tired of it, it's not even funny... he keeps trying to bid for different trips but they had been working the best for his commutability/days off etc...looks like this month will actually change for him thank goodness..not much change, but change nonetheless... lets just say he's been eating pho in oakland for 2 months on the same day and each time he walks into the place, they call him by name! hahaha it doesn't just get boring in the regionals, it's the majors too..doug hasn't been east of SLC in ages!! What's going on at CAL and are you sure it's because of who they know? if that's the case, then your dh should be talking to these guys that are moving over and start using his networking contacts to get him a shot at CAL. Christine - so eric's company wouldn't help him get his CFI/CFII/MEI??? maybe they need to hire more instructors? he's teaching ground school there isn't he? interesting that his boss wouldn't want him to get all of his ratings in (even if it is at another school)! but then again, guy needs an employee to teach the students too...on the offbeat, living at base in the early years isn't necessarily naive, however, what is is if your moving from base to base to base because in the end, i think it would end up costing you more $$ to move & find a new job vs staying in one area and building up a clientele of your own in a city where you want to live. but that's just IMO. ![]()

Eric chose a school in AZ that isn't exactly the best for training. Eric made it clear that he has all his training, just needs the checkride and his going down to AZ was only for the checkride. (He did a lot of his CFI training before moving out to the school in the Valley.) Another reason for his wanting to go down to AZ is that the Oakland FAA is taking 2-3 weeks to return phone calls to schedule check rides. Eric can't go with teh Fresno FAA because his school there doesn't have any RG's. It's all VERY complicated. I'm surprised I understand what I do understand. His check ride was supposed to start 30 minutes ago, but now they have IFR conditions. Go figure, the day Eric has a check ride is when AZ decides to have cloud cover. Maybe this afternoon, if not then Thursday. | |
