Thanks- Dargal.com worked!
I don't even think Nick knew about those sites (although he does know he gets a discount at some hotels). I really can't wait for this trip! I don't take too many vacations... the ones I seem to take are to Philly to see my friends and family.

This is the only scheduled vacation that Nick has for the year. IF and WHEN he ever gets based in PHX, we're going to pick up his truck (in PHL) and drive it cross-country. We did this last year and although I didn't consider it a vacation, I got see many new places and we had a blast.

Again, thanks for all of the helpful tips and info! If you have anything else to add, don't be shy!

Amanda,
My brother got married on a chartered yacht in San Fransico Bay about 3.5 years ago. I was only in town for the wedding and we had lots of family stuff to do, so I didn't do much site seeing, but China Town was really cool and Fisherman's Wharf. I wish I had been able to see Alcatraz...but we didn't have time.

We were there in the middle of July. It was over 100 degress in the suburbs and when we were going downtown, everyone told us to wear sweatshirts because it would get 20 degrees cooler right on the bay. I was like "80 degress? who wears a sweatshirt in 80 degress?" Well, it was REALLY windy and there are street venders on every corner selling fleece sweatshirts. I actually have mine on right now! My mom bought one, too and we saw about 100 other people downtown with them on! Now, whenever I'm anywhere in the country and see someone with a San Fran sweatshirt on, my mom and I just crack up!!

The moral of my story: pack a sweatshirt!!!

It seems like you've got a lot of great tips from the others though....enjoy!

Why is it hot in october but not the summer months? just cuz of the breezes?

I love fleece sweaters/sweatshirts! they are SO comfortable!

one of these days, we're gonna get up to san fran, just dunno when yet cuz Europe/Japan are taking priority this year - so far...

I'm not sure Kristie - but it was really weird. And it happened two years in a row, so I'm guessing it's normal.

I'm sure Eric could explain it all; but I know almost nothing about weather patterns and climates.
