Definitely a case of counting our chickens before they hatch. . . . Hubby is biding on an upcoming 24 hour overnight in New York over the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Anybody's guess on whether he actually gets it or not, though he seems confident that he can. He flies in to JFK at 7:30 pm on Wed and leaves at 7:30pm on Thanksgiving Day. We are thinking about using the overnight to try to see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in the morning. I am a little nervous about me non revn' to meet him. There are 4 direct flights on Wed to JFK. And there are 4 direct flights to LGA. (From BNA) How realistic is it that I would be able to get a seat on one of these 8 flights on the eve a long holiday weekend? (Not really willing to do any connections because I would rather not go than to get stuck at a hub.) Not really sure if I can actually make it home on Thanksgiving Day, so I would probaby go with him back to base and fly home on Friday or we have a car at base and I could just drive back home. |

I sure wouldn't try it w/23 yrs seniority and 2 airlines. Sorry, to be the voice of doom and gloom, I think you'd be best off starting reallllllly early on Wed and hold his room for him. At least you'd see tomorrow loads that day. Then just hope you can get out Thursday night--it used to be good for nonrev. After that, it could get very sticky.

Getting back Thanksgiving night probably wouldn't be hard at all. Most of the traffic is that morning and the day before. I would try it. You only need one seat and you just might get lucky, but I would definately start with the very first flight, give yourself lots of chances. Take a book to read just in case you get there early and wait for him at the airport.

Yeah you could probably get back on Thursday by then most people are already where they want to be. As for getting there Wednesday buy a ticket, and even then they will probably be oversold...

4 Delta flights to JFK and 4 American flights to LGA. Come on, one open seat somewhere. IF he gets the trip, I am going to try it. If I can't make it, I will have just wasted one vacation day and just get in my car and drive to my mom's for the long weekend. I'll start early, been around the block enough to know that. Fingers crossed. Toes crossed. ![]() My two can't do's are 1) getting to New York and getting stuck (can't afford a hotel room) and 2) going to a hub and getting stuck. Not going at all is okay. I don't think I will make it back on Thanksgiving because there is very few late in the afternoon/evening flights and with going to the parade, I don't think I would make anything late morning/early afternoon. Anybody been to the parade? Any tips or suggestions? |

Gotta tell ya--DL JFK--start early--my husband has major issues commuting CVG/JFK for his evening flights overseas. He seldom chances going after 11am

Oh just bring your lap top(to check flights), a cell phone(to advise of changes) , a change uf undies and a toothbrush and perhaps a good book. The adventure of it all ! They start lining up at 6AM for the parade and it doesnt start till like 9am. Find a coffee shop with a public restroom and park outside it... dont ask how i know this...hahahah. You can get the route on the web. 6 Tips for Best Viewing Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC I looked into my magic 8 ball... it says DO IT ! Good Luck Hugs okdk7 P.S. check out what airlines you may get ID90's on as well. Just in case. |

Hubby was awarded the trip. I got my vacation day for Wed before Thanksgiving approved. So two out of a dozen steps down. I can buy ID90 on several airlines. In fact I can fly standby for free on quite a few. But I am not willing to 2 leg the trip. So I am limited to what is flying direct Nashville to New York (or Philly, New Jersery). I have no intentions of getting stuck in ATL or Charlotte. I would rather never leave Nashville than spend Thanksgiving in the Atlanta airport by my self! Little worried about the bathroom situation. Baby seems to ride on my bladder most days. But what the heck, you only live once, right? |

c'mon--play the baby card!! who's gonna deny a pregnant woman a toilet?? even new yorkers aren't THAT hard-hearted! good luck--have a great time! I would have invited you to connect thru CVG and you'd have a safe haven, but we're going to Budapest (yeah--I get to hit the Christmas markets!! I never shop on trips!) and we get back late Thursday. Sorry. Hope all your flights work out! |
