Default Interesting nonrev policy

With the Delta/Northwest merger, we can now nonrev on Delta flights. Fiance and I were looking to nonrev to SLC so he gave a call to the travel plan line to list us. The CSA put fiance on hold for a while and then came back to ask, "Is your domestic travel partner the opposite sex?" He replied yes, that I am his fiance. She said that only same-sex partners qualify as domestic travel companions. !?!?! Huh!? Apparently on Delta you either have to be married or gay in order to take advantage of nonrev bennies!

He asked for further clarification and I guess they are not as liberal as Northwest in awarding travel benefits. They say if you're w/ someone you should be married and if you're homosexual, only then do they permit a domestic partner, since you can't be married. Re-tard-ed.

This will all be a non-issue once October rolls around, but sheeesh. I guess we learned.

I KNOW! isn't that the craziest thing! I'm a Dometic Partner with Chautauqua and it is like that with Delta and Continental! I was like sheesh, hahah...but with the others like USAirways/United/American it can be same/opposite sex, thank goodness!

But i found it quite interesting too...

in the future, state that you're a travel companion. with travel companion benefits, you can S3 anywhere on Delta altho you have to pay the buddy pass fair. If you state that you're a domestic partner, then yea, your stating that you're a gay couple.

altho, you'll want to check with your fiance and make sure he gets you signed up for the travel companion pass until you get married.

Hubby and I were talking about this this evening over dinner. He mentioned that he *thinks* that the only mainline, as benefit for flying regional, that allows opposite sex travel partners is US Airways. Tiny third hand knowledge of this is BIL who signed up live in girlfriend as travel companian.

Hubby also drew out the next logical question. If Delta benefits are being extended to Northwest, wonder if Northwest benefits are now being extended to Delta?

I'm registered as a Domestic partner with Chautauqua and can only fly USAirways, United, and American...those carriers allow same/opposite sex...

My bad. Our third hand knowledge was obviously not very accurate. Thanks for setting me straight. Maybe I will mention it over Thanksgiving dinner at my MIL and see if it leaves my BIL in hot water with his girlfriend. Hahahahah!

i'm the "travel companion" on xjet and can only fly CAL. Could fly delta if DF was in one of xjet's delta bases but he's not so no dice for me (which sucks cause I fly out of SLC!) I can't even ID90 on them since i'm not married to him yet!
