Default nonrev code of conduct

So T and I decided to overnight with Lance this weekend. (had a great time!) However, I experienced the worst non rev conduct this weekend. First was out of Boise. it was a cluster when we got to our gate, so we knew it didn't look good. I guess expressjet headed to saltlake got deverted to boise. So of course all of those were being put on our flight to salt lake city. I sat close so I could listen and see if I could pick up what was going on. Wasn't about to stand in line just to ask.

Anyhoo....there was this lady, who cut in front of others in line to get up to the desk, to ask if she was going to get on. right then I knew she was a nonrever, and hello, do you think you are going to get on???? hell no. So she hovers one foot away from the desk the whole time, and asked three more times if it looked good...again WTF. So the flight goes out, and the girl working the desk, knows me...not sure why but she is always running the ticket counter when we fly out, and I think she has a crush on my husband

Again, back to the point...she calls me over and to start rolling me over. Again the lady asks about getting on the flight.. the guy working the counter tell her I will take care of you in a minute. Well now the express jet is fixed and continuing to saltlake, so I ask if I can go on it. My girl goes over to ask, and I start talking to Ms Pushy. She is flying on a buddy pass, has missed the flight the night before, the early morn one, and now this one. But she tells me its going to be ok b/c "that guy said he would take care of me" I try to gently tell her, that she flying for free, and you have to stand back and let the paying ones go ahead of you. but b/c she has missed three flights she thinks that she should get attention, and doesn't understand why they are giving other their boarding passes. I explain that it is on senority, and buddies are at the bottom of the list. "but I have missed three flights, its not fair"

Finally I told her that she needed to be carefull b/c her granddaughter could get written up over her behavior. You don't have any "rights" when you are nonrev'n and that you can't get in the way when the the gate agents are working on re-booking paying pax.

We all ended up on the expressjet which was now wide open.

So on the way home to boise, almost the excat same thing happened. This time it was a parent. (I'm nosey, so I srike up conversations with these people) and Again Three time to ask if she was getting on durning the boarding process. -she didn't get on by the way. (but I did hehehe)

I know that it is gut wrenching to sit there and have to wait to see if you are called up, but my 7 yr old can do it. What is with these people? and can you not see the look of death that the agents flash you on your second time up, that alone would stop me from the third trip up.

it seems like a few bad apples make all of look bad.

Its amazing when people do stuff like that. My friend at work was flying ATL-CVG last week and he was in a window, another nonrev in the middle, and what he assumed was a frequent flyer in the aisle. I guess the middle nonrever was a bigger guy and the paying pax on the aisle kept readjusting and getting kind of irritated that the big guy was getting in his seat. So the big guy in the middle says the the aisle guy "sorry I know I'm a big, do you have a problem?" or something nasty to that extent. So my friend tells the guy "dude thats a paying pax, don't be rude like that". Then the f/a comes over and makes my friend go up and talk to the f/o like he was the one that was mouthing off the the paying pax. Then they go back to the seat and the paying guy was like "no he was trying to help, its the other guy". So long story short, they all got on, but I don't know if the other guy got in any trouble or anything.

I just don't get how people can act like they are so entitled to something like that when they are certainly not! Even more so to the gate agents, I mean come on don't you get they can determine if you are on the flight or not? or if you're in a middle seat or in a row by yourself? Its like being rude to people who handle your food, its just something you don't do!!

I'm one of those nonrevers that have problems every time they fly, which is why I don't unless I just absolutely have to. It doesn't seem to matter how nice I am, I always seem to get the rude ass gate agents. It's like they hate me or something.

My last encounter went something like this.

I was in line at the ticket counter waiting to check in and get a first class upgrade. The lady at the counter asked if I was checking bags. I told her no. She said, "Use the machine."

I don't know what it is about those machines, but I can't use them. Every time I do, it says, see a gate agent. EVERY TIME. I told her I couldn't use those and besides I need a first class upgrade, which you can't do at those machines.

She argued that I could use them and demanded I do so. She actually went so far as to walk around and ask for my name. I just shook my head and told her my name. What the hell, right, she'd see soon enough. She typed in my name and sure enough it said, see a gate agent. She stared at it for a moment, then I replied, "so are you ready to take care of me now?"

The lady behind me snickered. The gate agent stalked behind the counter and nodded to the girl next to her, "She'll take care of you."

The lady continued being a bitch and said, "I'm going to report you to your husband's employer."

"For what? Being right?" I shrugged. "Go ahead. knock yourself out."

Once i had my ticket in hand, I called my husband and told him what happened and what she said. He just snorted and replied, "they would applaud you, don't worry about it."

He said nothing ever came of it and nothing was ever said to him. Stuff like this is seriously why I hate to fly...

I've had a riff or to with "paying pax" and IMO that does not make them more entitled than me. They don't know I'm a nonrever. I'm not going to let someone talk about how my child is going to disturb thier flight when we have just walked on the plane and my daughter has not made a peep. I love to NR. I think it is a great perk, but I don't feel inferior to paying pax's when I'm on the plane.
I have had a couple of rude agents but none that I've had words with. I just think, if they (the rude gate agents) can't handle people then why the heck are they working in "CUTOMER SERVICE!"

I do think if you give someone a buddy pass, you should remind them of NR etiquette!!

They guy had his badge on so it was pretty obvious. And from what I get from the story, the paying guy didn't say anything, just wiggled around and was looking irritated, but never actually said anything. It was the middle nonrever that started it, from what I can tell.

If he was Delta or Comair and not in uniform he should not have had his badge out. That's a no-no and ID should only be used to check in. It is supposed to be concealed otherwise.
People who have 'tudes will usually be rude. That's their nature and it will bite them in the hiney some day--when they least expect it!

What? I've seen numerous pilots out of uniform with their badges out. My dh always has his badge handy, especially if he's nonreving. He always introduces himself to the captain of the flight and shows his badge, whether he's in uniform or not. He will also use his badge to go through security while in street clothes if he has to go in the nigh before a trip.

My DH always wears his badge too. In uniform or not.
UKcats, I know that wasn't your statement and the post was not aimed at you or anyone. It was just my opinion, as stated. I guess I just couldn't comprehend why a NR could not say something because they were a paying customer.

Oh thats fine! I was just clarifying my story I guess. Being a 3rd party story i forgot a few things. Things get lost in online translation, but I wasn't mad or anything!
