My mom supposably lost some jewelry one time flying on a buddy pass....(wasn't there, so I have no clue if she had it, left it somewhere, had it stolen, or what). She got back from her flight, the flight she used a buddy pass for, and she started panicking about someone stealing her jewelery. She started causing a big stink about it. I told her that she can't cause a stink about it or else it could possibly hurt my husband's job....she should have had the jewelry with her, not taken it, etc. Anyway, my point is that I feel anxiety about non-rev flying because I feel that their are certain standards for non-revs....basically, not complaining or making yourself a problem for the airline. I think it is a privilege that we have and even though we don't get to use it (ever try flying with 9 non-revs? ha ha), it is nice to have. : )
OH my gosh--I just saw the photo!!! When I read the post I wondered who in the world would consider flying with nine nonrevs---you weren't kidding!
WOW--Nine nonrevs!!! ACK

We once flew with 7 non-revs, but that was pretty tense. If we ever fly somewhere again, we would probably go in sets instead. : )

I thought I would throw my 2 cents in .....

I worked for Delta and ASA for a total of 9 years.....

There was a policy that was put out about a year ago that stated off duty employees flying non rev should NOT have their badges visible. I know DH would introduce himself to the crew flying to thank them for the ride and to let them know they had an able body in the back if anything happened. Other than that our IDs were in our pockets or bags.

As for security lines. ATL has a line specifically for Airport and Airline employees..... on or off duty. Each airport is required to have a certain standard set out by the FAA and then individually they have the option of going above and beyond that. Also, (an ATL thing) every employee boarding an aircraft off duty (in our out of uniform) is required to go through security and have all bags screened. There were several memos put out that if you were caught you would be fined and your badge was to be removed. If you were deadheading per the company you were exempt.....

Thanks BStory! It was much longer than that--way back in the days of our InfoXchange--remember that?? Sure miss that forum--it was priceless for travel tips.
I found the rule and the wording is something like no employee action [including exhibiting ID badge] should ever be allowed that identifies them as non-rev. If passenger asks, state that you are an employee and politely end the discussion.
But, it was strongly re-iterated not too long ago when they changed the nonrev dress code.
PS--who are you with now?

DH was offered a job with Emirates last year and I have since moved to Dubai. I decided for many reasons to take some down time after arriving but, have started to get antsy...... Anyway, I have turned my resume in with Emirates and hope something comes out of it.

Are you with Delta?

Sigh... I miss non-reving... Those were the good days!

I wish that the gate agents would at least tell you when you don't have a chance in hell, instead of giving you a glimmer of hope by telling you to wait around the gate. I was 70 on the stand-by list once (LAX-ORD), and the gate agents jut smiled and said, "Take a seat, we'll see." I'd much rather have heard, "Look, there's NO WAY you're going to make it. Try something else!" (After I realized what number I was, of course, I went to try something else, and never made it out!)

With me, I usually am very laided back so, if I dont make a flight I will just try another one.

As far as other nonrever's, Jason had this good one last Oct he was flying to Ft Walton Beach, and they were about 10 minutes from closing doors. When the gate agent came one to kick off a nonrever. I guess someone had purchased a ticket last minute who didnt make the flight before this one. Well this older gemtlemen starts to yell at the gate agent that he is no moving. They gave him the seat and he is keeping it. Well Jason had to go back to help get the guy off. Well they did, but I dont know what happened to the guys status.

doug only wears his badge when needed...if we're non-revving, he'll wear it thru security but that's really about it because at that point, we're really only passengers and not employees trying to travel.

I went to Tampa/Orlando this weekend (to visit my sister for a week)....flew into tampa, flew out of orlando. I was REALLY impressed with the security procedures in orlando... man, they had things down pat!! they had the casual traveler/expert traveler lines and they were wonderfully seemless. i got through security in about 15 minutes.

Boise has those, and last time I flew I asked what it takes to go through the "expert" they said pretty much you have to ask, and if you have little luggage, and look like you know what you are doing they let you through. I ask if Trayton could go through and they had no prob with it. I told him that he flys all the time.

They did tell me that I could only take one kid through, and if we had the stroller and shuch for Stevie, we can't use it. But it was pretty slick! FINALLY!
