Still not supposed to have it out except on duty and/or in secured areas. It should be concealed otherwise and presented when required.

What??--if they have their badges out doesn't make it right. "Handy' is the operative word.

Some employees dangle it like a golden ticket and flaunt it whenever they can, maybe to keep recognition at the gate. Makes them feel/look important??

Perhaps some airports permit commuters to go thru in street clothes. Some don't. Some will not allow and CVG has specific signage that prohibits any nonrevs from using employee lines thru security--off duty employees or not.

Hmm, My hubby just went through CVG to get to ATL NOT in uniform and was able to go through crew line.

As a passenger (full paying business class most of the times) I find that every airport is different. As a frequent flyer, I have a hard time with the removal of conveniences. When US Airways (the new regime stationed in the WEST) reconfigured aircraft and forgot that it was cold in the winter and removed/reconfigured the closets and overheads, I gave up. I have not flown them since. I now only fly three carriers domestically. Internationally, I fly a lot and it's rarely with a US carrier.

Airlines have done much to drive away the full fare paying passengers. Please remember that any little thing to tick off a fee paying passenger may be the final straw in a series of other negative experiences. And each dissatisfied customer tells 10-12 people vs. each satisfied customer tells 0-3 people.

MY DH usually wears his uniform. But he doesn't have to go through security, so it doesn't matter.

Stories like this make me cringe about giving out buddy passes. It makes me wonder how people we give passes to react. I know that I hate giving out buddy passes because I don't like the calls of, "I didn't get on...what should I do? It doesn't look good....what should I do." etc.

My mom supposably lost some jewelry one time flying on a buddy pass....(wasn't there, so I have no clue if she had it, left it somewhere, had it stolen, or what). She got back from her flight, the flight she used a buddy pass for, and she started panicking about someone stealing her jewelery. She started causing a big stink about it. I told her that she can't cause a stink about it or else it could possibly hurt my husband's job....she should have had the jewelry with her, not taken it, etc. Anyway, my point is that I feel anxiety about non-rev flying because I feel that their are certain standards for non-revs....basically, not complaining or making yourself a problem for the airline. I think it is a privilege that we have and even though we don't get to use it (ever try flying with 9 non-revs? ha ha), it is nice to have. : )

I just have to say thank you guys for the stories. I have never flown NR before, but its always nice to know the formalities of such "privilages." Fingers crossed I might be going to CMH next month to see the BF and I promise to make you guys proud!

I have found the best way to get by is to bring a book and lots of patience. I also check in down by the gate (even though I'm already on the list) I had a gate agent forget to do the standby list once!! She was super nice though I guess I was the only standby (shocker!!) so I waited until everyone was on the plane (the plane was still there though) and asked her if I had any chance of getting on. I'm glad I asked because she would have completely forgotten!

we make jokes about being invisible sometimes. That is not a time you want to be "incognito" for sure!!
With Delta we get very dependent on the gate screens which, can make a nonrev waiting a total anxiety meltdown or show that "you're next" (or NOT for that last seat...ick, I'm making myself ill thinking about it!!)
But it's a great privilege!!
