Default Denver Family Friendly Activities?

What are some fun things to do in Denver as a family with small kids? How is the Zoo? The Mint? Any good Fourth of July celebrations? Is there good public transport or would we need to rent a car?

I think the boys and I might wind up spending an overnight with DH in Denver over the 4th. His schedule kind of stinks with a four day with a two day tacked on at the end that isn't commutable home. So, maybe we'll go to him instead.

Any ideas? Amelia?

Jackie

Where are you staying? If its downtown, you might have enough public transportation. If its not downtown, you might need to rent a car. Would you want to get together at all? It would be just me and the kids....DH is working. If you are staying at the Crew Hotel, its in a nice area. There are lots of places to walk and to eat.

Hum....the zoo is nice, but it might be packed b/c its a holiday. There is Wash Park that is in Downtown. Theres a huge play area and a nice pond next to it w/ lots of ducks. Its pretty and there is plenty of places to walk.

The Childrens Museum is a lot of fun. That is on the edge of Downtown and the Aquarium is right next to it.

You can walk around the 16th Street Mall. Its just a pretty street to walk down with gift shops and placed to eat.

I'm not sure what is going on for the 4th. I'm sure the neighborhood by me is having a huge fireworks celebration. I live right by the airport, so if you stay by the airport, you can come up here for some fireworks. But, I'll look into whats going on around here for the 4th for you.

I gotta think more about this. My mind is drawing a blank right now.

I'll get back to ya.

Well amelia is definitely your best bet here since she's the local, but definitely the zoo!!! Their zoo is very good, and famous. I loved it when I was there at 10 years old.

You gotta go get dinner at Casa Bonita. Again, loved that place as a kid. Its a Mexican restaurant where the dining entertainment are cliff divers and navigating through caverns, and etc ...
Casa Bonita - the fun Mexican restaurant in Denver

And I don't know if its still there or not, but we were swimmers growing up and LOVED Celebrity Lanes. In addition to a full arcade and about 40 bowling lanes, it had at least one olympic size pool and countless water slides. It was a dream come true!!!

Enjoy your trip!

Oh yeah, Casa Bonita. Not the best Mexican food...its ok, but its great for entertainment. Some of it is all you can eat, which is nice.

If you are willing to drive up to Boulder....the Pearl Street Mall is nice.

If you stay at the Crew Hotel, there is a huge neighborhood area next to the hotel called Stapleton (its the old airport thats now a neighborhood) and I'm sure they will have fireworks on the 4th.

Oh its real. Real living breathing people. Diving off of 30' cliffs. Juggling fire sticks, etc ... It really is rather "fantastic." Like amelia said, I don't really remember the food, per se. You go to Casa Bonita for the entertainment!!
