Default Things missing off checked baggage?

We went on a great non rev trip this past weekend -even DH got to go!
However, the ending was marred by the absence of not only my cool, flashing SkyWest baggage tag but also the LATCH strap on DS's car seat. Okay, so the tag was annoying, and MAYBE could have fallen off on its own, but the LATCH strap is held onto the seat on the interior with two different plastic keepers AND DH had snapped the ends together and tightened it to the seat. So, what this means is that someone had to deliberately remove it and work pretty hard to make it happen. Can I say WTF here?
DH is inclined to believe that it has to do with unpopularity of SkyWest at this point, but come on! Do we have to be so petty? Grow up! I can see the luggage tag, barely. But the LATCH strap -come on!
What do you gals think?

I hope nobody deliberately took those off. I haven't encountered that type of bad behavior while flying.

People are just weird and mean, who knows, either way, that is no fun way to find out something is missing...
