Thanked 8 Times in 8 Posts
| In answer to my own question post about Boston. IT'S COLD!!! and snowy!!! No but really, we had a great time in Boston. Did the Freedom Trail, which was everything that I had hoped for. (Thank you city for the big red line down the sidewalk. No problems with maps and which way to turn on what street.) Loved the Quincy Market. Did the Quincy Market and the downtown portion of the Freedom Trail during the evening. Everything was very magical with all the white Christmas lights. We watched the ice skaters at Frog Pond for several mins. The whole scene looked like a Christmas card. Did the Bunker Hill portion the next morning durning the day. Great planning (though we didn't plan it at all.) Due to the snow storm (they got between 10-12 inches) that hit Boston on Thursday afternoon, experianced some firsts for my air travel experiances too. First closed airport. (Only the second time I have ever seen a snow plow in action. I actually witnessed MANY in action.) First many many cancelled flights. First 8 hr delay. First de-icing. First sleeping in the airport (we got to Atlanta at 3AM and the flight to Nashville didn't leave until 7:40 AM, didn't think a hotel was worth the expense or effort at that point.) I witnessed lots of people working very hard in an uncontorllable situation. Many gate agents with long lines, answering question after question. Many many rampers out with snowplows (FREEZING). We talked to a couple of flight crews that were amazingly calm and patient durning the delay (and they were not getting paid and they were timing out and they had been called in. . .) I was also amazed at the Newslink store in terminal A staying open long after closing so that us trying to get on very delayed flights could purchase food and drinks and mags. But (here comes the BUT) I am going to gripe harshly about COMAIR. (Don't mean to step on anyones toes. There could be ten million reasons for everything. This is just my personal experiance.) Three COMAIR flights scheduled to depart out of one gate. 5 gate agents working it. The flights had been deverted to Maine and were scheduled to come back. It was announced that all three flights were expected to leave Maine at 6:30pm and expecting to get folks out around 8:00. So we waited. Two of the 3 flights came in and boarded about when expected (not saying they left at 8:00). At around 8:00 we had not heard any more announcements about the third, our flight. Hubby went to gate agent (we had been staying out of the way and waiting patiently) and asked for an updated on our flight. The rude gate agent told him that the flight had cancelled and they had made an announcement a long time ago. NO THEY DID NOT!!! We were listening carefully to every announcement. No way both of us could have missed it. Hubby turned to waiting passangers and mentioned that if they were going to Nashville, they needed to talk to the gate. About 10 people got in line. As we were walking to the gate for the Atlanta Delta mainline flight, we even noticed that the monitors still had the Nashville flight listed with the delay times. As for other passangers. . . well you can probabley imagine some of the comments. Will tell about one encounter. Lady beside us was on the phone griping and griping to everyone she could dial and reach. She turns to hubby (in uniform, but not working) and me and starts with all that bull****. I told her that if it was not safe, I am glad I am sitting right here and not going anywhere, isn't safety the most important thing? |
