Default Last hoorah-Las Vegas!!

My last traveling hoorah before I start my new job is going to be Las Vegas. We were originally dreaming of a cruise, but we waited too late and the prices increased. That is ok though because we have cruised twice before but never been to Las Vegas.

We are going the Mon-Thurs after Thanksgiving. Luck of the draw, on Priceline I got a room at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino (formerly The Aladdin). It is supposed to be a 4 star hotel, but I don't know anyone that has stayed there. Anybody with any insight?

I know that we will gamble a bit, but I am also hoping to catch some of the shows and see some of the sights. I have my heart set on seeing Mystere by Cirque du Solei, but I looking for suggetions on other good shows, too. Anybody know anyway to find some cheap show tickets? I have heard out the vendors selling timeshares giving away tickets, but I don't think I am up to enduring the sales pitch.

Also any great places to eat? I am not really looking for fancy. I am more looking for cost vs benefit. I would love to find some good food at a reasonable price.

We also have reserved a car for the time that we are there. Maybe if we can take our eyes off the lights for a few hours we might also venture out to explore some of the rest of the area. I have heard about Hoover Dam. I know that it is supposed to be huge, ect. I am sure that we will go see it, as Hubby likes those Modern Marvel kind of things. But to tell you the truth, it sounds just a bit boring. Please tell me that I am wrong.

a couple of the JC guys stayed there during NetworkJC...they said they liked it, esp with the new millenium mall there and margaritaville somewhat closeby!

I have not yet seen a show, i just think they're too expensive.

If you do the timeshare thing... yea, they give you free tickets and all, but expect to lose at least half a day on their speel. it's a time vs money thing....

If you decide to get out and drive, Red Rock Canyon and Valley Of Fire are two good hiking spots..they take a bit to get to because it's way out of the city but they're beautiful locations!

Hoover Dam is neat but the tour is a bit boring... I'd say drive over/around it and park outside and just walk on top of it...that's the most exciting part! but be careful cuz traffic can get really bad there...have to watch what times you go!

You'll have a good time!

We stayed at Planet Hollywood when we went out for NJC and LOVED it!! It's right in the middle of everything... there's a great mall attached to it, the room was HUGE (and we also got our room through Priceline.com). I loved it and would recommend it to anyone!

Have a great time!

P.S.- eat at the PH buffet (can't recall the name off hand) for breakfast one morning. If you show them your room key, you get 10% off. Still pricey, but TOTALLY worth it! Best breakfast I ever had!

ETA: DH and I went to one of those timeshare speels. It was two hours and we got $75 plus a free lunch. Not too bad. But it IS a hard sales pitch and you HAVE to sit through the whole thing. Not something i'd do all the time, but for two hours it wasn't so bad.
