| My hubby and I are going to St. Criox on Monday. We will be there until Thursday. Anybody know any must do's in St. Criox? My brother-in-law has a winter apartment in St. Criox (sounds more glamours than actually is, just a studio apartment and a clunker car.) Hubby, BIL, and I are meeting up in Atlanta and flying to San Juan and then onto St. Criox. It will be my first time using a ZED ticket (not sure if I called it by the correct name). Was talking about what to bring with BIL. He said to bring sunscreen, which was hilarious considering I was standing in my living room wearing jeans, turtle neck, and a sweatshirt and I was the one posting just a few days ago about putting all my summer clothes back in the attic. Never the less, I am digging out a swim suit and sunscreen to take!!! |

If I was alone. I would take a cab to Christiansted and for a few bucks take the ferry over to Hotel on the Cay and hang out at their beach. Not sure if you can still do that. Sometimes by BF and his roommate would swim over (they were a little nuts). If I was with him all day, we would go to the beach at the Buccaneer Hotel, that was pretty nice. The best beach I went to there was somewhere near Fredriksted, but you had to drive a jeep through the woods to get there, but there was no one else there! Christiansted is the main town, but it is pretty small. It is on a harbor/marina if I remember right. Lots of nice little shops. I used to go to the Luncheria, a little Mexican place, that's cheap. It was kinda hard to find, but ask anyone and they'll know where it is. Good food, used to be all outside and you ordered at a counter. Used to have chickens and roosters walking around the tables, which made you wonder if you were eating their relatives when you bit into that chicken taco! The only other places I ate were the Chart House (for my birthday) and Wendy's. You used to able to buy beer at Wendy's, which was weird ordering it through the drive-thru. They used to have little shacks set up along the road where you could buy a bottle of Heineken for $1. I think the cruise ships go into Fredriksted and there are a bunch of souvneir type stuff over there, but we never really went over that way. The rain forest is kinda neat, but we just drove through it. I was more interested in beach type activities than sight seeing. His friend had a sailboat that we took over to Buck Island for a day, that was nice. I would imagine they have tour type stuff like that you can do. Good snorkeling over there, lots of big Conch shells, one of which I still have. There are some other sightseeing things like the old sugar plantations/ruins and stuff like that, I just wasn't too into that at the time so I can't give you any ideas there. Have fun! | |

| I haven't been to St. Croix since I was around 5, so I only have very vague memories of stuff to do. Beaches are a must, and if you like swimming/snorkeling it's gorgeous. Buck Island is great, but I'm not sure on the price to get a boat tour out there. I remember the one we went on had a glass bottom, so even if you didn't want to snorkel you could see what's down there. There is at least one neat fort, I'm not sure if they still offer tours, but that was one thing that stuck out in my mind. There are also a few places that offer horseback ride tours of the forest/hills that can be a fun afternoon. If you want to travel within your vacation, my favorite of the US virgin islands is St. John. It's gorgeous, most of the island is protected parkland, and so it's very uncrowded and the people are very friendly. Lots of hiking and beaches, and wonderful tropical forests. Plus there's a great outdoor mall that I love with lots of cool shops. I think the main way to get there from St. Croix is by floatplane, but there may be ferries.

| Thanks for all the suggestions. I am a little nervous with this traveling, everything from San Jaun is so booked and overbooked. I am going to toss in a couple more pairs of underware, just in case I get stuck in San Jaun or St. Criox for longer than I expected. I read very closely all the above warnings and will keep them in mind if hubby and BIL have to leave me to get back on my own (they HAVE to get back to work.) The tons of travel?? Quit your job and hit the road/air. That is what I did. All my whining about how horrible my job is lead me to telling them to just shove it. (Oh, it felt good.) Unfortunantly good times can't last forever. My new job starts Dec 3rd. Hubby and I are thinking about trying to squeeze in a cruise before it is back to work for me. |
