| Okay, so I'm married to a pilot and I'm afraid to fly. So what? Question is, I need a drug by tonight so I can take it in the morning. What's a great OTC drug to take to curb the ol' passenger-plane flying fear? I'm great in a single-engine; not so hot in the planes that can plummet, and that Ian isn't personally flying. This is a relatively new phobia, and an annoying one at that. I am NOT proud. That's all beside the point. I need a pill. A good one. Any ideas?

| Jetgirls Member | This probably sounds horrible, but when my nerves are shot about something, a shot of alcohol or a glass of wine typically helps. I wouldn't use it regularly to fly, of course, but in a pinch like your situation for tonight when you can't most likely can't get to a doctor..? (I should probably insert here the disclaimer that I'm a responsible drinker... lol)

| I make no judgments. Be an alcoholic or a social drinker - I don't care. ![]() Hm...a shot at 7 am. That might be fun. (I was thinking that, too. My "alcohol" would be NyQuil. It's less weird to take cough medicine in the morning than it is to down a shot of Vodka. ha!)

| Jetgirls Member | Hhaha... Well, Nyquil certainly sounds like it could do the trick too Other than that, I know Benadryl knocks me out, if you don't want to stomach the cherry flavor so early. Good luck either way!

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Here's my concoction: 1 shot vodka 2T Nyquil 1 Benadryl tablet 1 Unisom tablet 1c of fruit-flavored ice cream Put ingredients in blender and blend for 30 seconds on high. ![]() Seriously, though - I bet that if you combined some Nyquil and Benadryl together that you'll have no problems with anxiety. Maybe you could pose this question to Dana?? One of my girlfriends travels a lot for work (she works for Celeste Industries, who coincidentally sells a lot of aviation cleaning products - if you look at the soap in most airplane lavs, it says Celeste industries in Easton, MD ) and she takes half an Ambien before she gets on the plane, then takes the other half after she eats. I might have to look into that eventually for those overseas trips... I love to fly but can't fall asleep on planes (at least in coach, haha). |

| Admin/Owner ![]() | The shot of alkiehol is a good idea.. however, question: are you going thru security?? cuz if so, they'll limit that... if your flying domestically, ask the FA's for an early morning bloody mary! that's worked for me in the past when i had my flying phobia after a major wake turbulence experience (AND doug was flying the plane)... took me 6 months or so to overcome but alkiehol did help. I too wanted to take something but never had enough time to get to a doc and ask for valium...so sometimes i also used tylenol pm's too (to put me out) depending on the length of flight.

| Admin/Owner ![]() | it wasn't, but you'll be fine! the whole time just think "I"M(!) going to JAMAICA!!!" and then click your heels 3 times and poof, before you know it, your feet are gonna be hitting sand and lips are gonna love that pina colada!! ![]() PLUS...you'll have Ian right there next to you which means when you get creeped out, you can turn to him, look lovingly into his eye and squeeeeeeeze his hand really hard to remind him what labor would feel like, then tell him you love him afterwards! HAHA ![]()
