As far as flying to FL though, we tried to get to Jax for a month before we finally got down here, I thought we would never get here. I finally got down here on a Monday morning, but that was only Spring Break season, not even summer which I'm sure is even worse!

On this subject, our family ( 2 of us and my almost 5 year old son and 2 year old daughter) is going up to Cape Cod for the summer. I have flown with the kids by myself, and we have driven. When I flew with the kids I bought tickets in Jet Blue because it was summertime and my daughter was still a lap kid. So this year we are planning to drive the 10 hours from VA. My DH yesterday said, the flights on CAL are wide open for Monday, do I want to fly up with the kids while her drives up with our stuff? What would you do, sit in a car with a 5 year old and a 2 year old for 10 hours, or non-rev from IAD to EWR to BOS,and then drive an hour and a half to Cape Cod. I would take the 9am flight out of Dulles to avoid those East Coast thunderstorms! Just curious what you other ladies would do!

I am careful anytime I have to connect through EWR! EWR cancels flights all the time. With BOS, even if it looks wide open, if they cancel one or two flights to BOS, then forget it the rest of the day. The BOS flights change so much as it gets closer since a lot of the people flying from EWR to BOS are business people who book at the last minute.

That said, if you don't mind going through EWR (I usually don't mind, but DH hates being based there and flying through there) and the flights are still open I would fly! And I would do it as early as possible, EWR goes to hell in the afternoon!

I am worried about cancellations/delays but if we go early we should be able to avoid the cancellations. I find the later I connect into EWR, the worse it gets. I also thought if we really get stuck, my DH will be driving through Jersey, and he could pick us up on the way! I probably will make the decision the morning we leave!

I looked at the flights, I would try to fly, as long as the weather is good. Both EWR and BOS get big delays even if the weather is really just marginal. But since it's early you should be ok, unless there is fog or thunderstorms. Since the flights are so open, I don't think I would burn the vacation passes unless you are just using them so you don't get charged instead of using them to jump ahead! Good luck!

What about flying into PVD--I always found it easier to get to Cape Cod from there!

Providence is a good idea Roz, the Cape is about the same distance as from BOS but my in-laws live in Boston, so our ride to the Cape is picking is up at Logan. I actually might drive myself and send my DH flying with the kids instead. I could drive with MY music instead of the Wiggles for once!
