Default Chicago?

Hey there guys! I'm planning on using our flight benefits to bring my niece and nephew out to visit this summer. The problem is that they have to fly SkyWest operated flights and that means we'll have to sit around Chicago all day waiting for the second leg on the return trip. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm pretty broke so it would need to be relatively cheap. Does anyone have any knowledge of the public transport system? Is is pretty safe for example? I'm thinking maybe we'll find an inexpensive hotel that has a pool and hang out for the day or hit a museaum or two.

Any thoughts?

Jackie

exactly how long will you be there? Lincoln Park Zoo is GREAT and the great thing is,,,,, it's FREE. You could also walk into all the great shops up and down Michigan Ave. or visit the Navy Pier. That is free as well.

are you going to ORD or Midway? From what i hear, the EL train can take you from ORD to downtown in about 45 mins...there's the science museum and Shedd aquarium down there.. the shedd aquarium does have certain free days, if your there on one of those days, admission would be free. I'd check that out. Not sure yet how much train costs to get down there.

I do hear the zoo is really good too!!

We'll be in ORD. Do you know if the EL train goes near the airport? Can I catch it there?

The blue line "L" is right in the basement of the airport and you purchase your ticket right there from a machine. It does take about 45-60 min depending on track maintance, etc... it is actually pretty fun if it is not crowded and watch for pick pockets..... it almost happened to me with Walt with me (6'4" - 250 lbs at my side)!!

it is pretty easy to figure out where you need to go....
