I am curious what the other airlines offer as far as Space A flights. Do both sets of parents get to fly? With dh's job it is only HIS parents. Mine have to rely on our yearly friends/ family passes. Do your parents use them very much? Tonya

I have worked for several different airlines. Only the employee's parents get passes, not the parents of the spouse. Both of his parents have passed away, but I think his father used his passes maybe 3 times. We don't bother giving out buddy passes. CAL's are too expensive, flights are too full, and not worth the hassle. Jan

DH can designate which parents he wants. All are gone now, so it's no longer an issue. DS's friends use the buddy passes and understand the rules. They are free.

Wow, Spirit lets their employees use in-laws as parents. That's great. I know that if your parents are divorced and remarried, you can only designate one set of them at a time. CAL's buddy passes are pretty much a joke, a $100 fee then you are taxed on the value of them.

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | In our case, DH parents use the pass privledges more than we do! They use SWA a lot (he flies for ExpressJet right now) since it is convenient and pretty cheap (25$ each way plus a little extra). They fly once a month almost from MHT to MCO. We usually all go to Hawaii each year (on CAL) and they have been to Europe a few times. DH and I don't use it as much as we should. We don't travel during the summer since we have a summer place. We have been going to Florida every few months, usually on CAL in the past but last month we did on SWA. They were so nice and friendly! When I non-rev on CAL they wait until the last minute to clear non-revs. SWA had only 8 open seats and cleared me at 6:15 for an 8:30 flight! For DH's company only spouse, kids, and his parents (no other family). Everyone else has to use the buddy passes if they want.... As far as the buddy passes, we never give them to anyone. It is cheaper to buy tickets and have a confirmed seat! |

At ASA, DH gets 8 buddy passes a year and he since both his mom and dad are remarried he can only choose one set to get the parent cards. So, he chose his mom and step dad since they funded his flight training His dad and step mom use buddy passes quite often as well as his paternal grandfather. BUT the buddy passes are not cheap. This past January his brother used a buddy pass to fly from Jacksonville, Fl to Vegas and the fee was 168.00 round trip. Not exactly cheap huh? Some people love using them, to others it's not worth the risk of not getting on.
