Default First Non-rev was a success!

Awhile back I posted about learning how to non-rev and got a lot of helpful hints. DH was still a little uncertain--he jumpseats all the time, but didn't know much about how I would do it. We bought passes for Southwest for $25 each way and decided to see how it went. I only had about a week and a half to work with, so we were a bit nervous. We decided to plan the trip for Thurs (6/22) through Tues (6/27), figuring the travel would be lighter on those days. We still expected the worst. We decided to go to Tampa/Clearwater and if worse came to worst, we would drive (18 hours). Our neighbors offered us use of their condo and I talked my professor into letting me leave my class early & we set out for the airport. We got to the airport and had an hour delay over pilot-staffing issues, but got onto the flight without a hitch! Today we left Tampa and got onto our flight into Birmingham and even got into the "B" group from Birmingham to Louisville! We had a great time & I am excited to do it again sometime!

That's great!! When it works, it is so fun... and definitely worth it! I just got back today from non-revving with DH. He was on 4 day trip with 3 consecutive overnights in Savannah. So I went down, and had the monrings to myself, then when he got back around 1:00pm, we had the rest of the day together. We rented a car ( got a convertible upgrade for free..) and went shopping, went to the beach at Tybee Island, ate GREAT crab at Crab shack, I spent WAY too much money shopping. It was a blast!!! Having the mornings to myself was great too b/c I got to go running and worked out at the fitness facility, and went and ate breakfast and pillaged throught antique shops and things that he might not care to do. PERFECT vacation!!!!
Of course, when it doesn't work, it is miserable. But THIS was one of those weekends that I am glad DH is a pilot. GLAD YOURS WORKED OUT TOO!!

glad you both were able to have successful non-rev trips!! my trip this weekend to Orlando was purchased and looking at hte loads now, there would be no way i could non-rev on any airline.. they're all booked!!!

but i don't care...gotta visit the new nephew at some point and if it takes a paid ticket during a holiday weekend, i'm all there!!

Savannah's a nice town...they do have some great seafood..

altho sitting on the beach in florida ain't so bad either!! where all did you go in tampa/clearwater? did you get out to clearwater beach?

We stayed in a condo in Clearwater--near the mall. But, we spent a lot of time at Clearwater beach. We also visited Honeymoon Island (which has a nice nature walk as well as a beach area), Dunedin (a cute artsy town), and John's Pass (a neat boardwalk area on a cove south of Clearwater). We had dinner one of the nights at Sculley's in John's Pass and sat outside on the patio overlooking the water and watched while the dolphins played. It was wonderful! I tried to upload some photos, but they were too large. I'll resize them and try again later.

John's pass is really cool... we used to eat down at Sculley's all the time, their seafood is just awesome!! then you watch the party boat go out for the night and just listen to the reggae while they dance...sunsets are very nice there too.. altho it's told that clearwater sunsets are much better.

My sister used to live in Dunedin.. they really want to move back but disney won't her hubby telecommute yet.
