Default Racing Day!

Hello, I just wanted to share with you how we celebrated my DH's 35th Birthday. (It was so much fun- I had to share!)

For my husband's birthday this year I sent him to school...Nascar Driving school that is. It was an amazing experience and an equally amazing afternoon for the entire family!

DH drove solo 8 laps at the Lowe's Motor Speedway here in Charlotte (Concord) in, for you Nascar fans, a car originally driven by #9 Kasey Kahne. He reached lap speeds of 128 mph and had a wonderful time. It was an experience that the whole family won't soon forget.

Thanks for letting me share this afternoon with you.

Dh wants to do something like that with the porsche. The PCA holds events at tracks where they can race their own or use one of the clubs. There is no way he is using ours. I trust his driving, but man, when the turbo kicks in, it gets scary how fast it can go. I'm afraid he can lose control, crash the car and kill himself. why can't he just be content getting the rush of going fast from flying the plane? lol

Simple, the internet is a wonderful thing!

I lucked out as there was a driving school on his actual birthday! Lowe's Motor Speedway is so convenient to our home, but there are Nascar driving schools throughout the US. (There is a driving school in Texas, not too far from Phoenix I'm not sure if there is a school at the Phoenix Raceway or not?)

Brenda, driving your own car would have it's advantages, but I too would worry about any damage to my own car. At the driving school you pay a $25.00 insurance fee and if you wreck than everything is covered. They also provided you with a fire suit and well fitting helmet and neck collar. The cars that you use are determined by your height and weight. There are different cars for different body types which is pretty cool. The school was very professional- I would definately encourage anyone to try this out if you have the NEED FOR SPEED . It was a great afternoon. The school was so pleasant to our family (and four kids). We sat in Pit Row and cheered DH on as he was making his laps. Before the racing began we had several photo opps taking so many pictures of the race cars, DH, the kids in pit row. It was amazing.

It was supposed to be a "once in a lifetime" experience and DH is already asking when he can go back. Go Figure.

I suppose it's a man in uniform thing because I thought he looked rather handsome too! TEE-HEE.

My dad did the Richard Petty Driving Experience at the Kentucky Speedway a few years ago. Same type thing, 8 laps. He is coming to visit this summer (to Jacksonville) and he is doing it again at the Daytona Speedway. He went 5 or 6 years ago and he hasn't stopped talking about it so he's finally doing it again!

You're in trouble now! My step-mom and I bought my dad a Petty Driving experience a few years ago and now that's all he wants for Christmas, birthday, Father's Day, Veteran's Day, etc. every year! We're hoping to get him in again the next time the cars are in CA.

LOL! Yes, I didn't realize that I would be creating a Nascar monster with this "Once in a lifetime" experience! He is ALREADY asking when he can go again. YIKES

He had so much fun he is now trying to talk me into letting the kids join a quarter midget club and race go karts. Yikes...like I said, I created a monster.

You know I suppose I should have learned a lesson from a Birthday present I gave him several years ago- when I surprised him with his first airplane flying lesson. Geez I saw how that turned out, what the heck was I thinking? Next year he is getting a watch.
