    Default Secret Santa 2007 Sign-up

It looks like I am going to be in charge this year

If any of you are interested in participating this year i will need an e-mail address. You can either send me a private message or an e-mail if you would like.

I want to make sure that everyone who wants to participate has a chance. I will need everyone's e-mail address by November 15. That will (hopefully) give everyone who wants to participate a chance to sign up. I just want to make sure that there is plenty of time for people to shop and get their gifts to everyone on time before the holidays start getting crazy for everyone

It looks like the past years have been a max of $50.00. That sounds good to me if we want to just continue with that amount as a max limit.

I hope that everyone is as excited as I am!!!

    Thanks for stepping up!!!

I would say $50 is OK as a MAX, but people should not feel compelled to spend that much.

I agree that it should be the MAX and people shouldn't feel obligated to spend that much. I read somewhere that it was between $20 - $50. I just don't want anyone to feel like they can't participate. At the same time I don't want anyone to feel like they didn't get what they put into it as well.

I just really want everyone to have a fun time with it

In my own opinion, $50 is a stressfully high amount of money to set as a limit. My own parents are lucky to get presents in this price range. I understand that you say $20-$50, but it stresses me that my Santa might buy $50 and I can only afford $20 and that includes the shipping. The max price is actually the only reason I'm deciding to not participate this year, and I believe there are many women on JetGirls that are not participating for the same reason.

If I can offer a suggestion, how about dropping the upper limit to $30? There are lots of things people would like in that price range, and $10 difference isn't stressful. I'm also willing to bet that more people would participate with this price range.

It would be even better to make it a $20 limit with no gift requests. Just buy Santa what you would buy yourself for $20. I'd send a bestseller book, slippers and some hot cocoa. Or massage oil, some sparkling cider and candles. Thoughts?

Yea... will you be my Secret Santa??? LOL!

I agree with you. $20 - $50 is a big range in my book. For a messageboard I say $20-30 is a fine amount. I might be in the minority though.

I'm going to talk to DH tomorrow about signing up and see what he thinks. With baby #2 on the way, money will be tight again this year.

    well, exactly...it's a "range"...nothing more than that.

the idea is to have fun....if you can only afford $20, you can only afford $20 etc....you can even find gifts that would look like they're more $$ that you got on discount or who knows what.....max price is just putting a cap on the limit that can be spent, not should be spent. it shouldn't matter how much your secret santa spends on you and vice versa....

it's about the thoughtfulness of the gift, not the price.

I have read the posts from the last 2 years to see what has been done in previous years. The MAX amount isn't something that you HAVE to spend by any means. It just means that you can't go OVER that amount. In years past it looks like people have even made there gifts because they couldn't afford to go and buy something. I think that is a great idea if you can't afford anything. It still means something to the person who is receiving it. I don't think that anyone should feel obligated to pay $50.00 if they don't want to. Just get the person you have something that you think they would like and I think that it will be fine. I really just want everyone to have fun with it and just do what they can do. You shouldn't feel guilty if you didn't spend as much as someone else. It should just be fun getting all the women together to share some of the holidays.

I am one of those people who hates having limits put on them. Even when it comes to family. I don't expect someone to spend what I spend. I just want to get that person something that I think that they will enjoy regardless of money. Right now I am fortunate that I have some money to spend on everything. I know that it always won't be like that but that doesn't mean that my family won't enjoy whatever I get them regardless of money. It is all just for fun.

I am going to get the invitation ready soon and was wondering about a date and time that would work best for everyone to get 'together' and open there presents online with everyone.
Right now I am pretty open with dates and time but that could change because of my 3 jobs
It would be great if we could schedule it early so that everyone can plan on it beforethings start getting hectic with the holiday season.
So for everyone who has signed up please look at your schedules and let me know so that we can try to narrow it down. It looks like in the past they might have decided on the 20th but again I am open to whatever works for the majority.

For those of you who have yet to sign up and would like to just e-mail me or send a PM I will need everyones e-mail and name who want to participate by the 15th ofNovember.

    I can't wait I am really excited
    Danielle

The 20th sounds good to me. We need to pick a time that works for those on the east coast, west coast, and all places in b/t ... assuming most participants are in North America.
