Question the band

Hi everyone,

My name is Kate and I'm new to Jetgirls so this is my first post. I've seen how helpful everyone is on other posts so I'm happy my FH Andrew showed me this site. Anyway, I figured someone might be able to help me out.

A few months ago I was at a USO Gala and the band there was perfect. They played things like Sinatra and things of that era, and they were actually good, which we both would love to have at the wedding reception. So I looked them up and called them today about booking, etc. They said it would probably be around $4300 for the evening. Is that a normal price for live music? If possible I'd like to avoid just getting a DJ, but I may have to for sake of money. Can anyone tell me an average price for a band or a DJ, or just what they thought was reasonable?

Thanks so much!

Kate

We're getting a live band, 9 pieces and a singer for about $2000. A trio is playing through dinner (7-8) and then the full band is playing from 8 - midnight. We got them friend of a friend sort of deal though. I think normally they are around $2500-$3000.

We're getting married back in michigan, so if you're around that area and want a band, let me know! I'll send you their phone number

Hi Kate and welcome!
I had a super small ceremony and we haven't had a reception yet.

I just wanted to welcome you to the site and encourage you to introduce yourself to everyone in the "Meet your Jetgirls Family" area of the site!

I think it probably depends on the type of band and how prominent they are in the community...maybe you should interview others and see how the prices compare?

good luck!

Yay! Live music's the best!!!!!

(Maybe I'm partial because I come from a family of musicians, but I'm sure you'll be happy with them! We had about 5 bands [all family/friends], it was wonderful!)

And to Kate... Good luck, I hope that you find what you're looking for. Sorry, I'm not much help.

Do you have any sort of school of music near you? When I lived in Rochester, NY, I had a friend who hired students, very talented students, from the Hochstein school of music. It was incredible and cheap! Just a thought!

Brenda- Very good point! Bill and I had two bands at our wedding,, one played during the cocktail hour (no singer) and the other was a 4piece with a singer that played during the rest of the reception. The girls that played during out coctail hour was from Rollins college's music dept and they were VERY affordable and great! We chose to feed all of our people (all the musicians and photographers) and they were very appreciative,,

Thank you everyone! I live in a very musical community, and I never thought of trying to find students to play. I'll keep looking, thanks for all the ideas!
