eloping?

ok boyfriend and I have been dating for about 4 years now. We have talked about getting married in the past and we really love each other and want to do this. The problem is my family is so overbearing and honestly planning a wedding would be more stressful than it should be.
My boyfriend and I both agree that we dont want a huge wedding or anything and we would be happy with just a little reception with our close friends and family.
We have been talking about eloping in early January. I wanted to know what everyones thoughts were on eloping. Please be as brutally honest as you want and ask any questions you may have.
